Going a long time without eating is bad. It actually makes you bloated and you look fatter. I've heard many people say they are leaner when they eat frequently myself included. I have abs after I've eaten a good meal but look puffy when I haven't eaten for 5 hours.
On the other hand, you should not be constantly eating. Ideally, you want to eat a good meal (that contains all the things in those links) then not have to eat again until you are hungry (hopefully in around 3 hours). I find snacking makes me look bloated as well, whereas eating a nice meal, then not eating again until I'm hunger (3-4 hours later), then eating another nice meal keeps me looking cut.
You know you are on the right track when you start to have bowel movements after a meal or before you are about to eat another meal. Ideally, (for me), I want to wake up, bang out a huge deuce, eat a big breakfast (never eating past the feeling of full), eat another nice meal in about 3-4 hours when I'm hungry again, and then bang out another deuce shortly after that. I heard somewhere if you're healthy, you should shit after each meal (and if you're eating right). Sounds about right for me.
So you don't want to go hungry but grazing is bullshit too. Just eat, work, get hungry, then eat. The best time (for me) to work out is over an hour after I've eaten. I don't feel like I've just eaten, but I'm not really hungry. The food is digested, I'm running free of anything moving around in my stomach. I usually have full strength at this point (I find digesting while working out takes away from your power and digesting makes you tired in general) and I look cut, so I am adding to that.
I'd say the hardest part of it is figuring out when to eat and when not to eat rather than waht to eat. But each are equally important I'd say. When to work out is key too. Guys stuff themselves then hit the gym. Fuck that.
