The short answer to stress/diet/emotions/exercise/alcohol/tobacco/pot/drugs/sugar/caffeine/adult entertainment/everything affecting the delicate balances within your brain/body...it ALL matters (just some more than others depending upon your personal sensitivities).
I'd suggest getting out and doing something that you love to do...for yourself. Force yourself if you have to. It's easy to hunker-down (especially this time of year) and wallow...I say do the exact opposite. You're in-charge of how you feel, take the wheel and make it happen!

You need to start doing things for yourself, start to love the person you are or this will turn on you and you will end up in an endless cycle of obsession and 'should of, could have would have' thoughts. For me, learning to live with myself alone was the best thing I have ever done for myself. Once I learned to live alone I learned to love myself. Every man should experience independence and self exploration to find himself and love himself. Once we love ourselves we are able to love others. Diet could have an impact as many other things, as BSA said. Avoid things that will replace your sadness, deal with emotions head on and never bury them as they will yield their ugly head in terrible ways. Things like drugs and alcohol will make things much worse, stay clear! In general, taking care of yourself or even bettering yourself is the fastest way to recovery. Do not bounce back into something new right away, learn to live with you first.

That is the best thing you can do in this situation, a proper strain will truly alleviate much of your suffering and allow you to go forward with that awesome knowledge from the Spirit? Does Cannabis cause issues for you? I use Cannabis daily for my prayers at night, I do not use outside of a spiritual manner. Cannabis is a huge help to me and that is why I advocate so much for it.
