Remember that the Franciscan order is a sect of the Catholic church that fully recognizes science as a part of God's creation. They base much of their studies on science, math, physics and theology. This was the order I wanted to enter when I was considering becoming a priest. When we listen to the conservation of energy it has the same implications of God, can not be created, can not be destroyed, it only can change form. In my opinion this is a beautiful incorporation of fundamental studies of the universe and that of Theology.
