i can also confirm that 1-2 week breaks seemed to make a difference.what i havent figured out is what preceedes the improvement.

Very nice. During this time, continue to warm the tissues, massage, and only light to moderate jelqs. Just a bit more to get the tissues, blood vessels, and nerves to restore themselves for the turnover during the rest phase.
 
I'm finding that five on one off is the perfect routine because it gives you two days of rest after five. I always went seven on none off and now thinking, back on things, I think I might have gone this way from the beginning.If I understood healing properly
 
DLD im assuming after a break there should be a specific way to restart the training slowly so not to put tissues back into that tense mode?
Yes, if you take a break longer than 5 days, you should definitely start at a low level and increase over a couple of weeks. But if it's a short break like two days, you don't really need to worry about that too much, just do as much as you can.And see how you feel.
