but then the chinese get a hold of your design and start making it for less lol. well they get it even if you don't make your product in China. Next you know it's being sold on alibaba

Maybe, but there is probably an equal chance of him being honest and grateful for this website.
Personally I wouldn't hand off any prototypes or blue prints without a patent.

Any good product that is created online, if successful, will fall prey to the Chinese knock offs. There is very little you can do to avoid this as a producer but what you can do is educate people to the fact that if something that usually sells for $100 and now is available for $5 there is something very wrong.

Every thing has a cost. Even if made in china it will have a cost. China reduces the cost only if the order is in very very large quantity. So need not to worry.

No I am not an engineer. But can make any thing. Now don't ask me can you make a Lamborghini lol. I have a textile and melamine moulding industry and plastic industry.. I have more than 10000 industry near mine and around I personally know 3000 of them. Here from textile, machines, leather, printing, packaging, guns, tanks, bullet proof, chemical, oil, perfum, plastic, packaging, motorcycles, electricals, medicine, dyes, bags, biscuit, tea, and what not is all here.

An example nearly all extenders are being made in china. Still all extenders sell from 5 dollars to 350 dollars. It's all about marketing and education to the customers. As the competition increases the prices fall.

There are ways to challenge the patent. I can make phallosan if I want their patent cannot do me any harm. I have ideas but I am happy with my industry. Phallosan excluding mold cost price will be 20 dollars or max 35 dollars. Not more than that.
