Personally I wouldn't hand off any prototypes or blue prints without a patent.
Any good product that is created online, if successful, will fall prey to the Chinese knock offs. There is very little you can do to avoid this as a producer but what you can do is educate people to the fact that if something that usually sells for $100 and now is available for $5 there is something very wrong.
