Is it safe to use don quai as it mainly for women?
Don quai is used by women for its effects on blood circulation, not for any feminine hormonal properties. I am told it is also a traditional chinese aphrodisiac for both sexes.
That said, it is listed here as an "oxytocin stimulator". Oxytocin is a hormonal chemical but one that's present in both sexes. It's an emotional hormone, involved in that strange tearful happiness now scientifically known as "uplift" and is apparently part of what causes parental attachment, especially in men.
It has also been shown to increase lactation but the effects of that on men should be too little for any noticeable change.
Increasing its production may lead to higher levels of emotional attachment or perhaps the other way round.
So, should you want a non-supplementary way of getting oxytocin into your system, try doing something that makes you feel good, watching an emotional film or spending quality time with your family.
Or, you know, just take the herb and cut it out if you don't like the above mentioned side-effects.
