I agree, Mike's generosity should be accepted and honored but does the fact that there is a prize throw honesty and self-accountability out the window? It may...I'd hate to think so, tho

Big Schwanz Acht;718040 said:very true and with anything worthwhile, there will always be that risk...the key is to mitigate w/out suffocate (I just used that word for the alliteration, in no way is this suffocating). Would someone all-of-a-sudden try to pry their way into our competition to get a free prize? Sure, but maybe, (since we already have the participants identified) keep this group intact. (now that I type this, it goes against one of my core beliefs, 'inclusion' so scratch that thought).
I guess I'm willing to take the gamble that we are all upstanding individuals with honesty and integrity in our hearts...plus, it becomes pretty obvious really quickly when someone isn't 'playing fair'
Big Schwanz Acht;718043 said:You really don't know, but maybe we can incorporate a 'light' vetting process for any new members that wish to join-in. Since we are already a month into this 2-month cycle, someone wishing to join mid-stream would need to do some routine posting to sorta catch-up. The members that are already/currently participating wouldn't have to go through this since we began at the beginning. Would this be enough to potentially weed-out the 'quick-hitters' just looking for an easy prize/score?
Big Schwanz Acht;718046 said:If we base it on The Routine of the Week, then it's an entirely different 'animal'...I still believe it should be about gaining. (BTW, I missed how your measurement went on Saturday)
Big Schwanz Acht;718050 said:That's progress, isn't it?
Big Schwanz Acht;718052 said:I was referring to your 6.25", lol
I like using size increases because it's quantitative, empirical and leaves zero question, but this also opens the door for the 'fudge factor'. I'm not certain there's any other way to do it, tho
rocky1243;718055 said:Gotcha, yeah thats the upside I see from going with measurement and also that it greatly simplifies the judging process. But also though it is quantitative it does get subjective, because you can't judge a vet the same way you will judge a newbie.
The voting thing though its not quantitative, it does limit the fudge factor. And people sort of have control of who wins, and we are all honest the right person should win. Also the judging process wont exist because it will be a point based system.
doublelongdaddy;718082 said:So how will you determine who has won?
arkailija;718195 said:I am in favor of the multiple criterias determining the winner. Come on other judges! Surely you've had the spare time to go through the nominee journals.
The different criterias are important, for one:
If the competition is without pictures, anyone could claim the biggest gain and be the winner; can't see that as the most fair practise.
Consistency is a major part in many life changing aspects; journal wise, of course it's a big thing if the workouts are posted on a daily basis. But daily posting is only one criteria; the quality of the posting matters as well! I could see that if there's a competitor that maybe is able to post once a week, but a thorough post with the weekly course of workouts, I'd say that has to be taken into strong consideration while judging.
All in all; a little bit of competition can push many of us further in the process of growing. Growth isn't just physical, it can be mental based as well.
I salute all of you who joined in the competition! It can spark a light in others as well, to train harder.
doublelongdaddy;718217 said:I would not like to judge, I would rather some other senior member. I am enjoying looking on Temp and Long are around, hit them on the PM.
the boss!;718309 said:1.consistency
2.routine quality
3.gains
This 3 are pretty good criteria, still easy to lie about it.
I rather not compete with a prize, but as rocky and BSA said it's mike's generosity which I really appreciate.
I think we should add pics before and after every comp, one measure for all bpfl and mseg?
Maybe no judges? if there's no one willing to(personally I'll be willing to judge) the competition will become bigger with time, maybe we should keep it under 10 people. we can all judge at some point, especially if someone already won.
If not judges, popular vote within the competitors
So this is my option to decide a winner.
1.MOST WINNER OF ROUTINE OF THE WEEK.(routine quality) 3 of these would be first place automatically
We should set the same day every week to post your vote, You have 24 hours to, whoever not posted clearly not committed, looses points if we go based on point system, this would be part of the consistency criteria.
Personally I don't always have time to log in my journal, plus i make the same routine all week, so rewrite doesn't work, I think BSA said the same, some maybe we can at least write up something to let know routine was done as proof of consistency(takes less than 4 mins)
2.BIGGEST GAINERS. If you went over certain amount of gain in a month you'll be first place
If there's a tie, winner we'll be decide by judges or competitors based on the 3 criterias. so your journal will be 50% gains 50%
I believe this is not the ultimate way to decide, hopefully we can come up with something from this.
Just an Idea
rocky1243;718314 said:Also I was thinking adding more people to manage this competition with me, these guys would also be involved on the decision making(and will not be eligible for a prize). Its a bit of work to do it all on my own.
Here are the positions/tasks that I could definitely use some help with.
1. Schedule keeping:
Reminding everyone to vote for things, submit measurements etc. by posting on this thread and on their journals.
2. Collecting and compiling the information:
Compiling the measurements, votes etc.
3. Recruiting:
Recruiting participants, judges etc. Maybe even being a judge themselves in the case and external judge was not found.
Just an idea, if anyone is interested in helping with this.
rocky1243;718312 said:The thing about the prize is that it will benefit a lot of people even though it does add a small layer of diffculty to a competition based on an honor system.Yeap you could lie but I don't think it would be that easy, it would definitely require a certain level of skill and knowledge. And remember you will have 10-15 people competing with you that will keep and eye on you. But at some point we do have to trust our members, is just that if the requirement is only a measurement with no picture thats just too easy to lie. And by trying to solve a small problem we might start world war 3 on this forum, people calling each other out etc.
The thing with the pics is that most people including myself don't feel comfortable doing that, so off the bat you will loose a lot a of people. And again, I we do have to trust our members to an extent I don't believe they have bad intentions this is more about prevention.
Agreed eliminating the judging process would be ideal, I suggested a points system based on votes. This would also solve that issue of having too many people, but I don't think that will be a problem hopefully it does become a problem. Having 15+20 active journals on this forum going at it hard would be great. Anyways got any ideas for this?
Thanks for the feedback bro.
kyomoto;718375 said:Pictures needed soon if it's a monthly thing with prizes coming in from DLD and this'll be hopefully with as much evidence as possible
lehmo7;718497 said:DLD, just shot you my pics for my progress thread, there's my proof. About .25" in a little over 30 days. I thought I posted link here, can again if necessary.
rocky1243;718588 said:Anyways I was thinking how about you guys start sister competitions that cover other criterias of your choosing, these would run weekly, monthly whatever you want. But they will be considered when picking the winner for Keeping Up With Rocky in a 2 month period. At the end we just add everything up and see who won, so everyone knows where they stand.
Big Schwanz Acht;718590 said:That sounds like a great plan! You could have little perks for the weekly/sister winners and then Mike's prize for the 60 day winners...perfecto!
rocky1243;718592 said:So design one of your own.
