Yup studying and reading is important anytime we want to get good at something. Study more than you practice!
 
You don't have to, but you said you want thickness and have a hard time getting a pump through jelqs. Bm could help with both.

Because doing it dry you wont feel it. I've tried it and never worked for me. I've used coconut oil and it works great

Go for Vaseline, get the cheapest brand because it gives much more drag than the name brand. It will also last for an entire session, without having to reapply.

Isn't vaseline a potential source to cause cancer? I think that's why i stopped using it.

Since you are 8.2 and going for 9 inches, you don't need any length device. Just do manual length work. But for girth, get yourself the mityvac as soon as possible.
