AlphaSprung, what you're doing there as a methodology is called Specificity of Training (training the same way that you want to later athletically excel) and neurologically it's dealing with what's called Recruitment of Motor Units (having more motor_neurons fire than normal .. mastering getting them all to synch up and cause a more powerful result.)

but on the subject I'm reminded about some study done way way back on or because of Albert Beckles. The punchline was that while hormone levels can drop off a lot past about age 27, the ability to recruit motor force is only off as a genetic potential by around 3% to 5% by age 63. - which he was at the time, now he's like 80-something. If someone treats their body like an amusement ride, or a garbage can, they'll obviously get worse results, but anyone healthy can make enormous changes. Athletically, most people starting from a completely untrained state can double their physical strength/power in less than a month. AlphaSprung's specificity observation should work the same way.
