When I was younger I used to get laughed at in the locker rooms because I was not circumsized. Thanks a lot man!! I am really going to to this man!! I cannot change the past but I can change the Future. God has put two amazing people in my life recently. A great girlfriend which is of God and has morals and belives in his Name. And a great military buddy that just got back from 4 years and he is on Fire for God.

Since meeting these two people I have delted all my adult entertainment, reading the bible, and having bible study with Keith and my girl everyday for hours. And really on Fire for God man. I feel better about life than ever before. To have a military buddy like that is something. It has to be tough to be a Christian in the military, I would think. Let's be honest--most of those guys live some pretty immoral lives, though I have the utmost respect for their service to the country. Until recently, when he got a new job, I worked with a guy that spent nine years in the Marines and now serves in the Air Force reserves. While he told me he was a devout Baptist, tithing and going to church functions regularly, he regularly made some pretty crude remarks about most of the women we worked with that went WAY BEYOND "She's pretty", if you know what I mean. I know he cheated on his wife with at least one woman in the past. Knowing how self-conscious I am about my appearance he would ridicule me at times telling me I'd never "get any pussy", as if he knew a damn thing about my private life. I don't doubt your sincerity at all. I just meant it does have to be hard to be a Christian in the military and mentioned my former coworker that I personally found to be a real piece of work.

I was raised in a Christian home and have high respect for the faith, though I just have some unusual reasons for walking away from the faith years ago. It has nothing to do with not making the commitments towards a more holier life. Surprisingly, my moral standards are as high as a large number of people in any given church.

Very true. Many people think "doing the right thing" means being miserable. Being a good person is as simple as doing what you believe is the right thing to do. I never make this a big deal but I am very religious. I was raised in Catholic school by a very Italian, Catholic family. The morals I was brought up with were borderline scrupulosity and much of this followed me into my adult life. After a long period of rebellion against all things I considered religious something hit me one day. I did what I wanted to do for a long time, I screwed people over, lied, stole, slept around, drank and used drugs. I remember the day I realized my way did not work anymore. I was laying on my kitchen floor drunk in a two week stupor, the police were after me for a leaving the accident violation, I was facing 5 years in prison against my probation, I lost all contact with my family and friends...I was miserable. Then it dawned on me like a fucking hammer smacking me in the face. MY WAY SUCKS! This is when I decided to do things GOD's way. I never made it a huge public announcement it was more of a private relationship I was making with my higher power. I started over. I did everything different than before. I did things the way I thought GOD wanted me to do things. I stopped drinking, using drugs, lieing, stealing, sleeping around, hurting people, etc, etc, etc, and I did just the opposite. After only a few short weeks things started to become clear to me. GOD started putting good things in my life...things that did not matter before...but now they seemed valuable. It has been 4 years since I made these changes in my life and today I can say my life has meaning. I am very poor financially but I am richer than most with the things that trully matter in life.

I have always hated preaching religion or folks that push their beliefs on me. My relationship with GOD is a very personal thing. It is not a whim or a way to be holier than though, it is simply a code I live my life by.

DLD, that was an awesome story. I'm glad your life has taken a turn for the better, or rather that you chose a better path. Despite your lack of financial prosperity (me too, bro), you clearly understand how prosperous you are in the most important areas of life.

We are all raised differently. Some of us with no religious upbringing. Some like that of yours. Some like that of mine. I was brought up in a strict Protestant environment. Any drinking is wrong. Smoking is wrong. Drug use of any kind is wrong. Profanity of any kind is wrong. Any sex outside of marriage is wrong. Dishonesty for any reason is wrong. Working on Sunday is wrong. I was not allowed to wear my hair long or get my ear pierced.

Hey, some of that stuff I can't agree with. Some of it I can. I have not always observed these teachings and sometimes I have failed miserably. However, I say all that to say this: While some of us are more strict than others and have a different idea of what being devout to the faith might be, shouldn't "Do unto others..." be fundamental? That is why that guy got on my nerves so bad.

Celibacy is really interesting. At first I hated it but it really grew on me to a point that I see the world through complete different eyes.
