I do believe that with the correct equipment, hanging is far more effective than working with an
extender. It's also not as time-consuming as people always state, one could do 3 sets of 20 minutes in the morning and the same in the evening before bed (this would be ideal, but there are so many people who have gained with much less work but heavier weights). That would be 1.5 hours (because of warm ups, pauses, etc.) twice a day or a total of 3 hours. Well with an
extender you would probably need double the amount of time to obtain the equal results. Not to forget that a hanger is cheaper than an
extender, you could also build your own device. So to sum it up for the hanger:
Pros:
- almost effortless with the correct technique
- you also gain girth (especially base girth)
- unlike manual stretching, you apply an even amount of force in every session (e.g. always 20 lbs) which can be increased in (small) intervals
- you can target more angles than with an
extender
- gains are theoretically unlimited
Cons:
- higher risk of injury/discoloration
- requires some time until you get used to the weight + until your skin is stretched
- building a good hanger is harder than you may think
- you can't walk around like you could do with an
extender
- turkey neck, especially if you're uncut
- uncut guys seem to have problems with hanging in general, but I assume that's because of bad technique
I did hanging in the past and made a bad experience (injuries, discoloration, turkey neck), but I see the great potential behind it if done correctly. Now I'm using an
extender and being an uncut guy, there is some discomfort as the skin under the glans is still very sensible. The discomfort of the
extender compared to the one I got from hanging is much higher, but I believe that hanging is more efficient. That's the main reason why I want to return to hanging, an
extender is probably good but I would say it's mainly dedicated to the cut guys.
