*I never intended to participate, but I randomly caught Kanye dealing with stupidity on this Smack [words=http://www.mattersofsize.com/mosdvd.htm]DVD[/words] clip that was featured on YouTube:
YouTube - Kanye West / Smack [words=http://www.mattersofsize.com/mosdvd.htm]DVD[/words] Vol 13 ; and even though I was heading to bed I instantly felt like I could not think of any better way nor any better place to express my perspective of the shortcomings in hip hop and the sadness of the culture that many in it are born into yet still help to perpetuate or even help to degenerate.
I didn't put in much time. This is my first real even half hearted attempt to rhyme like this. I picked Hip Hop style because that's what I want to speak on as inspired by the Smack [words=http://www.mattersofsize.com/mosdvd.htm]DVD[/words]. I enjoy ALL genres with a passion to varying extents depending on individual works, but Hip Hop slips more and more from my faves.
Comment on the rhyme and message if you wish, but I don't really give a shit because it's "real" no matter what. Still, I'm somewhat interested in opinions about it.
This is not directed at any specific person(s), but their is obviously a "type" that it focuses on with a kind of "tough love".*

Step to D.L.D.'s M.O.S. , and you're D.O.A.
- that's Dead On Arrival
You'll try to impress but your lyrics beg for survival
your reading comprehension is low, so I try to break it down for you
like taxes do what you can't, while we ask 'should we deplore you?'
like the relevant D.O.A
- Department of Agriculture
you don't talk about that, because your vulture culture
you see we pay taxes for the F.S.P., just so you can eat
that's Food Stamp Program, follow me - have a seat
when you follow the rules, there you are in line
with your EBT card, buffin' it to a shine
that's Electronic Benefit Transfer, but I call it a sick joke
a tyrants pathetic answer to their self induced social cancer, but your answer is coke
I can't knock you for trying, but you play into the sheik
and I knock you for that, 'cause that street thinkin' is weak
I don't give a shit that it works for you, or that it's not in line with the rules
tyrants have DARE in the schools, but still deal from the top to you fools
you think you stick it to the man, but you give tyrants what they want
they pimp you AND nab you by the family jewels, be they balls or a cunt
you create feinds like they do, and glorify it with bars
but your coke and rap are just infecting the people, like a deadly case of SARS
to learn the last two acronymys, you'll have to fish with the net
if I teach you to fish, then you'll be better set
the main words are "cause change", have you gotten that yet?
don't preach just to preach, but instead help our forces
"we the people" need strength, or we'll all soon be corpses
design your lyrics to fight the people's dominator
instead of that weak ass shit you call "hard" playing to the lowest common denominator
it won't pay as well, but that's only at first
if you keep it up, then change will soon burst
awakened masses will drift to you, like they do to Immortal Technique
and you'll sleep better at night, knowing you're not the weak plaguing more weak
enjoy drugs if you want, but fight to make them legal and don't sell and infect
change your culture to moderation - not addiction ... and to love, unity, legit success and - most of all - to respect.

In closing, I reflect on how Mario Savio's likely most popular rant CAN apply to not only any bureaucracy "machine" but to any "machine" of detrimental actions and messages .... like the machine that music/written word CAN be.
"There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious, makes you so sick at heart, that you can't take part, you can't even passively take part, and you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop! And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!"
