I do not use a lube but some men do. I feel I have more control doing them dry. Here is the Slow Squash Jelq Thread so you can read how they are performed.

If ya use lube when doing SSJs you can reach further into your fat pad, but it's harder to get a good grip because jelqing upwards slips up further, and when you try to compress from the top it's really slippery.


Doing it dry gives you a better grip, but when you jelq upwards it tends to bring up a bit of the fatpad with you. Compressing downwards is slow and easy though, and seems to give more girth.

It shouldn't feel like you're gonna rip something off if you're gentle with it. You will probably feel sore near the bottom of the glans.

Switching from wet to dry does take a bit of time to get down. I switched at about 2 years in and it took me about 2 weeks to become proficient with it.
