Hi, im looking for a bit of help on raising my energy levels. I'll start by a description of me as i am now. I'm 20yrs old, 5'11", 75kg, so not overweight, i do minimal exercise any day, no sports or gym, i do lots of walking though.

I sleep about 10-12 hours every night and if i get any less than that i feel luggish for the whole day. My sleep patern is about 2am-12pm or there abouts. I can be a bit of an insomniac, but definatly nowhere near clinical.

I eat usually 2 meals a day, lunch about 30mins after i wake up, and tea about 6-7, meals are pretty basic, pie for lunch, meat and veg for tea, that sorta thing. I drink a lot, i got out binge drinking at least once a week, usually about 3 times a week. I don't smoke or do any drugs.

I do medatation and have just started Yoga.

The Problem:
I just want higher energy levels, some days after a good sleep or just for some reason im really energetic and wide awake, but most days im a bit tired all through the day. I had sex the other day and lasted about an hour before i was stuffed, and i know i have lasted longer and my erections can be better.

So my question is simply how can i raise energy levels, are there really good foods that are great natural energy boosts? what else could i try?

Cheers.

You first need to start by getting on a better sleep schedule, and limit yourself to 8 hours. Any more than that is overkill, and can actually make you more tired. Once you are down to sleeping 8 hours, you will be able to fit more meals in per day.

2 meals per day is not the ideal eating schedule. You need to eat more, smaller meals throughout the day to keep your metabolism and energy levels up. I would shoot for 4 meals. Breakfast, lunch, have an early snack, and a lite dinner. Or something like that.

Meat and Veg is good and healthy, I don't know about pie? Is that pizza? Try eating some fruit, and maybe even taking a multi-vitamin. I think from eating what you do, you could be lacking some essential nutrients.

Exercise is important, but the things I just listed are more important in my opinion. Walking like you do should be sufficient for now. Add some weights or running if you have the time.

I agree with philadelph... if i sleep for more that 9 hours i find that i drag and feel tired all day. Also, eating only two meals a day is just plain wrong. There is no way your body can get all the nutrients it needs from eating only two meals. You're teaching your body hoard what you eat into fat. If you continue this lifestyle, you will slowly replace muscle weight with fat weight.

If you want more energy... sleep less, exercize, and eat more often. It's that simple...

I agree that sleeping 8 hours a day is a good idea. I personally sleep from 11pm-7am everyday. I had the same problem as you do shithead. About two years ago (when I was 19) I was living a very similar lifestyle to yours now. Including diet, etc. I felt that I was having less and less energy and getting headaches and all sorts of other problems from depression to nail fungus.

I searched for a long time to find a cure to my symptoms. I became very interested in meditation yoga. I read many books on Buddhism etc, and found them very calming. That alone helped me but I was still feeling sluggish. Not all the time but certainly a lot of it.

So next I turned to nutrition. I read a number of books all advocating specific diets. I tried each in turn, 4 in total. None of them really helped me.Then I found a book called the pH Miracle. I read the book and was amazed by the simplicity and the sense of the diet that it preached. The idea was simply to alkalize your system by following a series of steps. In short cut out meat, bread, fruit (that's a shocker), dairy, and a few other foods. The reason for doing this is because they acidify the system and allow microforms to breed.

Simply put, eat a lot of veg (mostly green), drink a lot of water and do both often. I don't believe that the problem is when we eat or how, much it is what we eat. I've followed the program for 3 months so far and I can't describe the difference that I feel. I have energy all day, my thoughts are super clear, I sleep like a baby every night, I no longer get headaches, my skin looks a hell of a lot better, the whites of my eyes are actually white as opposed to yellowish white, I've gone down to 8% body fat whilst keeping muscle tone and not feeling tired after my workouts, boiled down I feel great. The best I ever have.

The program is not easy, correction, it's very difficult but it really pays off. I could go on about the where's and why's but I won't. If you are interested and are willing to make sacrifices then check out this link and follow it up: http://www.pHydromaxiracleliving.com/ . Make sure to watch some of the interviews. Especially the one with the bodybuilder. Here's another link for that: http://www.pHydromaxiracleliving.com/vidtest.htm . Good luck in whatever you choose. Sorry it turned into an essay.

...so all you have to do is buy Dr. Young's book, buy his supplements, and be a vegetarian to feel better... Hydromaxm, why didn't i think of that.

Fuck his supplements. But basically......yep. Maybe you didn't think of that because you have not read his book or been exposed to this diet before. I have spent a long time trying different diets and reading different books.

I also have nothing to gain from any of you feeling any better (apart from maybe receiving a little more respect) and as a result why would I lie. I wouldn't. What I wrote is simply an explaination of my experience with this diet.

Sikdogg please if you doubt it try it. Then maybe even you would go on the internet and rant about this to people you don't really know.....just like me.

Oh one more thing......so all I have to do is go to MOS, pay for access to a paysite, follow the instructions and I'll get a bigger dick?

But it's true.

Thanks, any more advice would be welcome.

Also, it's amazing that no countries but Australia have meat pies, im sure there are some though.

Do you drink lots of soda and sweets? Sugar can make you sluggish. It might seem like the opposite would be true, but you will have an insulin crash after taking in alot of sugar and will feel drained. Carbs, too, which are converted to sugars.

I also agree with the other guys. You're sleeping too much. Sleeping too much can not only make you feel tired all the time, but could also make you depressed and irritable. 6 to 8 hours is all we need. I usually sleep 6 hours a day. I just wake up automatically after 6.

I second what Kong says, sweets and sugar does make you sluggish if you don't move around a lot. Meditation, excersise, running, working out, tae bo, yoga, anything like that can help. Even just going out for a simple walk can help you gain back energy.

Drinking lots of water helps a lot too, along with Gatorade (which also helps out your immune system when you're sick, so I heard, it worked for me), other energy drinks (not red bull or whatever, that's gross shit) and eating right.

The only reason why sugar doesn't slow me down is because I'm always constantly moving around like a maniac lol.

You should try to eat relatively healthy. You definitely need to exercise. Start off with some things that just take a few minutes such as sprints or an intense jumprope session. I would then progress to a regular cardio routine. It's possible that you could feel a lot better if you just worked with a quality personal trainer for a few weeks or months getting you more active and into a more healthy lifestyle. A dietician or nutritionist might also be a benefit.

And you definitely have got to change your sleep quantity. That is just wasted life gone by. I'm willing to be with better nutrition and exercise you can wake up energized on far less than 10-12 hours.

I work with a vegan and he swear that he can get all the nutrients he needs from just veggies but he is a walking stick. I've yet to see him put on one pound of muscle eventhough he works out enough and supposed to be eating well...

Last year he convinced three other guys to try being a vegetarian to "live a better lifestyle." They did and at first they swore up and down that they felt better and had more energy... that lasted 3-4 months. All three guys are eating meat again and claim that the euphoria they felt at first didn't last and also claimed that they never felt satisfied regardless of how much or what they ate.

NOT!

I get too much satisfaction from eating meats... and i don't have a problem with low energy levels, in fact just the opposite. I rarely get sick and the only time i ever get headaches is when i skip a couple of meals and my blood-sugar levels drop too low.

- Sleep 8 hours a day. Go to bed earlier and get up earlier
- Excersize 3 times a week
- Don't masturbate
- Eat more frequently. About 5-6 small meals a day
- Eat healthier
- Drink loads of water throughout the day
- Cut out as much alcohol as you can

thanks for the replies.

The biggest problem with the sleeping is that there's noway i could keep it regular, i'm a bloody uni student, parties come outa nowhere, early classes, so i could never just sleep for 8hrs from a certain time.

Either way, im making myself a diet and getting into some exercise.

Kick-boxing and sports like that are suppose to be good for increasing energy

Take an IRON supplement. When your body does not have enough iron it cannot transport oxygen around your body to all it's cells efficiently at all. This creates a fatigue feeling as your body is not operating well.
I did this and it worked for me =) Any Iron supplement you can buy in a high street chemist will do ! Simple as that!

There are also a lot of good energy supplements out there. Concentrated B-12 is a good one. Bee pollen supplements work great as well. Low doses of Yohimbe...notice I say LOW doses (before I get scolded). Take a trip down to a GNC store if you have one locally. People who work there, from my experience anyway expecially if you catch the owner who is often a franchisee (they've done their homework on the supplements a lot of times) are usually very helpful on making good recommendations. Try out a few different supplements, and then narrow it down to one. After all you want more energy, not to be totally wired all day and not able to sleep at night.
