How often would I have to work out? For how long? Whats best to eat to achieve this?..

I have to walk my boyfriends' brothers' wedding late Agaust this year and I am freaking out. I have got to flatten my stomach by then or i will look weird in the super tight dress I have to wear. Is this a reasonable goal? How long will it take me? Please help :)

*thanks so much!

You female?

Essentially there are two components to getting the flat stomach.

1) You need to target your abdominal muscles and also your obliques (left and right). A cursory Google search should provide you with exercises.

2) You need a low body fat percentage. Calculate your basal metabolic rate (we need your age, weight and height) and then make sure that you eat under that in terms of calories and also have a relatively clean diet.

Good luck.

Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day
Walk for 40 minutes (fast pace) or jog for 30 minutes (you can alternate days between jogging and walking)
Keep away from fat foods.
Eat more vegetables and fruits.
Keep away from carbs at night (especially rice and pasta).
Work on your abs, like rakas said.

Be persistent and consistent. :)

That is all great although i would debate the keeping away from carbs at night.

Other than what people like Atkins say, i have seen no evidence that your body deals with food any differently than at any time of day and carbs are also not inherently bad.

P90x all the way! Im 20 days into it and can't believe the results. I also follow a low carb high protein diet. It works!

This guy nailed it. If you google "best six pack" and look at the pictures you're essentially seeing two things, low body fat percent and large abdominal muscles. If you want a flat stomach it's just about losing weight and lowering body fat percent. If you want chiselled abs than do tons of crunches and ab workouts.

I don't imagine you're going for ripped for this wedding and if that is the case it's as simple as: Calories in < Calories out. Eat less than you produce. You can choose to combine exercise or just diet.

Not trying to attack you, but I've tried to read that SRT like 3 times, it's REALLY long. Still don't know what it is. Can I vote for bullet points?

Yes, I see exactly what you mean. The latest I heard about carbs is that it is mostly the "white" carbs that we should keep away from at night.
Apparently, it would be more advisable, if you're going to have carbs at night, to go for beans, chick-peas, and the likes.

But since I'm no doctor, I can't really be 100% sure. :)

It sounds like somebody trying to flog a low carb diet.

The only thing you could say is that some carbohydrate based products such as bread contain starch which is converted to glucose by the enzyme amylase and as such this may keep you awake longer.

you can start by calculating how many calories you need to consume to maintain your current weight and reduce that by 300 to 500 calories
http://www.caloriecontrol.org/healthy-weight-tool-kit/weight-maintenance-calculator-women

then go to fitday.com and track your calories (it's really easy) at least track a typical day and see how much you're eating.

dieting is tedious and annoying. The better alternative is just to eat healthy well balanced meals that don't include really anything processed or from a box.

Me flogging a low carb diet? Not really! :)

I didn't say "don't eat carbs at all". I said "keep away from white carbs at night". I see no problem at all with eating white carbs during the day.
Either way, this is just my experience. Your body may react differently. I know that if I eat white carbs at night, the next day I'm not getting the results I want.

So go for what works best for you.

I did not mean you personally, it was a general comment for the whole 'carbs are evil' diet.
