A study published in the September 1996 Journal of Urology concluded that average erect length was 12.9 cm (5.08 in)
(Measured by staff).

A study published in the December 2000 International Journal of Impotence Research found that average erect penis length was 13.6 cm (5.35 in)
(Measured by staff).

An Internet survey performed by Sizesurvey.com found an average of 16 cm (6.3 in). Self Measured

An Internet survey performed by Jackinworld.com found an average of 15.6 cm (6.1 in). Self Measured

Almost an inch difference, on average, between self and staff measuring.

As an aside, up until I discovered [words=http://www.mattersofsize.com/join-now.html]MOS[/words], I was probably right around 6" x 5", or so, and never once had either a complaint or experienced trouble giving, (helping, enjoying, co-creating, discovering etc. ) a woman an orgasm. Any size related inadequacy I may ever have felt or experienced was totally my own creation and mostly based on purely visual cues, not phyical or functional cues.
And that was only when I was younger, (45 now) once I got more than a few "triumphs" under my belt...I really coulda cared less what my dick size was.
It worked, and it worked just the way I wanted it to.
So any of you young guys stressin' out there about yer six-incher: DON'T ! If you wanna increase, increase. But don't think it's imperative that you do so just to become "a real man".
'Cuz that just ain't true, and you'll waste a whole helluva lot of the joy of life in believing that it is.
 
Well I think staff did non bone pressed probably and self pushed it and such...


staff: 5.25
self: 6.5

So I'm pretty much average or just a bit above it either way I look at it.
 
Another thought about the difference besides the fact that we all tend to exaggerate--at least a little. :)

If I had some hot chick measuring me, I would think I would be less likely to "shrink" a little than if some "scientist" were doing it.
 
I wonder if it was done standing or sitting...we all know how much you lose while standing (unless you have no fat pad at all)
 
This is no shock to me. How else could 90% of the posters here have sizes above the averages of all of the scientific studies?
 
ye this has been on my mind for a while.
i can measure myself sitting down and get a BPenis EnlargementL measurement of about 6.9
if i stand up and do a NBPenis EnlargementL measurement im only about 5 3/4 - 6. id count this as my true length (useable) its this length that i want to get to at least 7.5...

I second this. I'd also chime in lying down, although I'm sure they wouldn't measure like that.

When I stand up a lot of my penis tends to go up into my body, not fatpad wise, just that my dick curves up and it tends to hook back into the body, as illustrated in one of my pictures. However, I can bend it out to about the same length as when I'm sitting down.

Yea same with me...I measure sitting down, and bend my penis strait and out so its not curving up or to the left. I just try to be consistent.
 
In any study (medical) on size, that I have studied [and that is allot], the method of medical measurement is flaccid bone-pressed. In regards to the self-measured studies there is no known user measurement technique. Since we can assume that most medical studies are bone pressed, flaccid, (which is the longest possible measurement) I think it is safe to say that the self-measured participants were not honest. Or maybe it is just a massive coincidence.

Not if it was a young hot recent college grad. :)
 
Useful to prove DLD's point. We can assume they exaggerate in this self-reporting survey by an inch. So if they post 6.5" as an average, we can conclude they are really averaging 5.5".
 
Yeah this isn't too surprising - I'd say on average most guys spot themselves a half inch minimum, and I've argued as much on different threads. I don't think that it's always intentional, just wishful thinking manifesting in their actions. It's not like it's a huge amount of length, but I think the tendency is to round up, e.g. the 5.5" guy becomes 6" when he measure himself, the 7.5" guy becomes 8", etc.

Interestingly, it's the guys who are already in the above average range (6.5" - 7.5" ) that seem to exaggerate most often and by the widest margins, not the less generously endowed guys. I wonder why this is?

Ha, probably. I've always thought that it's more along the lines of the smaller guys are generally here to work hard and gain and have accepted that they weren't born with an advantage. A lot of guys seem to post on Penis Enlargement sites, particularly in the picture area, just to get feedback on their dicks, and these tend to be guys with some issue and looking for confirmation that they're a good size - and often a size bigger than their real measurement.

Personally, I think larger guys might tend to lie a bit because the logic is that "the bigger it is, the more blood has to be filled." Therefore, since they have a bigger penis than most people, their erections vary more than smaller and average guys. I don't know if this is true, but my erections with vary day by day, but not to the extent that I've seen some guys on LPSG and other places say, like they'll vary over an inch in length a day!

I think it is true that the bigger you are the more your size will fluctuate, but I don't think you'd be fluctuating past 1/2" at the extreme.
