Hey guys, I'm 25 and have been thinning a little on top since I was 19. Probably the Greek genes I have...I dunno. Anyway, I am currently using 1.25mg a day of Propecia (generic, about $6 a month) to retain what I have. I dont know that my hair has gotten any thicker in the last few months, but I am definitely seeing less of it on the shower floor or in the sink.

How about other restoration products like the OTC brand ointments, washes etc like Rogain for example? Anyone have experienc with stuff like that? Is there anything that will actually re-grow hair? My concern is mainly keeping what I have, but would also like to re-gain some if possible?

I am cut, and am trying to get uncut, it makes no differnce

Hey stillwantmore, where do you get the generic Propecia from? AncientChina, i'm 19 and have noticed some thinning on my head as well. I think it's from my genes, which is a chinese background. Sucks for me cause I have super soft hair to begin with, and thinning is even worse. I can't really gel anything cause then my head will appear to be like see thru or something, plus my hair is too soft to really do anything with besides keep short. My hair grows fast besides the fact that it's thinning. I use the Nisim shampoo, but I can't attest that it has really been doing anything. I really don't know if I can live with being bald, and sometimes the thought of surgery/other possibilities go through my head. Anyone know how much surgery for hair restoration costs? and the pro's and con's of it?

About 5 years ago my dad (who was in his late 40's at the time) went on propecia. He definately wasn't bald but his hair was getting thinner in the front and sides. He was on it for a little over a year and he regrew virtually all the hair he lost. Since then he went off of it and still has the hair he regrew. I think you just gotta give it time, it takes awhile for the hair to actually grow back but it will.

The reason men loose hair on the crown, is because the hair follicles, have a set lifespan. This is why you see men that have plenty of hair on the back of their head, but not on top. This is inherited. But hair grows in cycles. All hair eventually falls out, and the follicle becomes dormant for a couple months, then it regrows, sort of like a natural resting period! Propecia, Rogaine, will offset the timing mechanism in the hair on the crown, that has a short lifespan. As for rogaine, there are 2 types, one has 2.5% minoxidil, the other has 5%. 2.5% is easier on the scalp, while 5% can cause irritation. If you can afford it, try to get some propecia & 2.5% rogaine. Also the rogaine increases the thickness of the hair, and strengthens it.

Another thing that you could get, is Saw Palmetto, it has been proven to promote hair growth, and take care of the prostrate gland, and increase your sexual drive. I also take ginseng for circulation, as allot of hair follicles die through thinning veins/lack of blood supply.

Massage your scalp daily, as this improves the circulation, and promotes regrowth. Also laying on your bed, with your head hanging over the edge, will draw allot of blood into the scalp, this could be done once a day, from 10 minutes, to 30 minutes. HGH, and IGF can also help you to regrow hair that has been lost! Also regular trips to the barber helps with growth! Just getting a trim will promote growth, it's kind of like mowing a lawn, by cutting the grass, it is then stimulated to grow, this is the same thing with a hair cutt! I will have a look, for more information, hope this helps, if you have any questions, please ask, as I have allot of knowledge on this topic!!

I noticed my hair thinning at 18. It came as a shock to me because my Dad always had a full head of hair and my grandfather on my Mom's side has a good head of hair too. Now I'm 20 and my hair loss isn't as bad as I think it is. I haven't really tried anything in the way of regaining my lost hair because it's either too expensive or too time consuming. The best thing I've been doing is using this shampoo that makes the follicles thicker. It's called Thicker Fuller Hair and it does what it says. I saw this stuff on tv called Avacor and I was thinking of getting it when I had enough money. It's hella expensive but it'd be worth it if it worked. The other thing I might consider getting is this stuff called Toppik. Looks too good to be true. Take a lookhere . I don't know, it's most likely crap. I figure I'll be pretty bald by the time I'm in my mid-20's so I guess I better start doing something now.

I lost a lost a lot of hair to the steriods, this IGF-1LR3 is supposed to regrow it so I will let yall know

Another thing they found is an ingredient called Ketocoanozol. Its found in Nizoral shampoo. There's 1% and a 2%. Its a dandruff shampoo that you only need to use 2-3 week and gradually go down to once a week. It has been found to thicken the follicles about 10%. And reduces the fall out.

just a quick question, I know (think) testosterone affects the DHT which causes hair loss, and since i don't have a high test level, will i lose my hair later (22, haven't experienced much hair loss at all, but getting worried.

This is one thing that I am so lucky about. At 33 my hair is still 1/2 way down my back. But I am still doing things like using Saw Palmetto and Nizoral shampoo. Though I still have a lot of it, I've always had fine hair. And don't wanna start losing it any time soon. This is a good thread though and people should definately continue with it. It is something we all have to be cognizant of.

Hey guys, I recently got the book The Bald Truth by Spencer Kobren. He's a guy who's managed to treat his hair loss and helps others in the process. His website is thebaldtruth.com and he also has a radio show. His book is helping me to craft an approach to combat my hair loss.

Hey guys anyone tried Rogaine? I read some good rewievs on that stuff and the price is ok.

I bought it once and decided to take it back without even using it. It says on the box that it's primarily for hair loss on the back of the head not the front. That and the process of having to apply it twice a day, everyday didn't appeal to me. Plus I thought it would be messy. And once you stop using it any hairs you've grown back will start to fall out.

I have used rogaine, and still use it! First I would like to say their are 2 types! One contains 2.5 minoxidil, the other which has more strength, contains 5% minoxidil. The 5% seems to irritate my scalp a little, so I have stuck with the 2.5%, and I use it 2 times a day morn/evening. It's not messy either! After you shower/shampoo, let your hair completely dry, then apply! It is acoholed based, and of a clear liquid, so it does not leave a color stain, and it is absorbed into the scalp in about 10-20 minutes! It will stop what hair you have from falling out, and it will regrow some, but not all! The hair that does regrow, will appear as peach fuss at first, then it will slowly change into your natural color. This doesn't happen in a month, it will take several months of constant use, and yes, once you discontinue it's use, the hair that was regrown, will fall out in a few months, and you will revert back to the stages of hair loss! Rogaine also strengthens the hair, and thickens the hair as well!

I was advised to take the rogaine, along with propecia! Along with this I have cider vinegar with water in the morning, and before bed(to drink) cider vinegar oxidizes the blood, is rich in potassium, and is a good antioxidant, which has been reported to regrow hair. Also I pour cold pressed olive oil onto most of my food! Olive oil is very good for hair, it strengthens, and creates a healthy shine to the hair, it also clears your arteries out from fat, and plaque, which enables a good supply of blood to get to your hair! I also take saw palmetto(herb) which can help regrow hair! And for shampoo, I use one that thickens, as well as strengthens the hair, and don't forget the vitamin B complex, these will also help in your hair's health, and also help keep, or return your hair to it's original color if you have touches of gray! Any questions please ask!

Here's something I found guys, about another possible factor in hair loss!!

DHT is related to sex and/or masturbation. Recent advances in the treatment of male pattern baldness have revealed that hairloss in males is directly related to DHT. Therefore, can masturbation be linked to hairloss?

Recent advance in the treatment of male pattern baldness have revealed that hair loss in males is directly related to DHT and the amount in your body. It is also an understanding that the production of DHT is related to sex and/or masturbation. With that in mind, does that mean there is a link between hair loss and masturbation?

Over-masturbation or over-ejaculation converts too much testosterone into dihydrotestosterone(DHT). High levels of DHT overload the body causing baldness and possible prostate enlargement if blood circulation is poor in the prostate area. Reducing the frequency of masturbation or ejaculation will help maintain low levels of DHT and avoid hair loss.

Depressing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <:(

Check out www.minoxidil.com

I just started Xandrox, it's a bit more than Rogaine, but it's clear, not greasy, and no smell. It penitraits the skin better too. I tried Spiro but shed from it. FNS did nothing for me, and its like putting thick lotion in your hair, it doesn't penitrait the skin good at all. Go to hairloss forums and look up these products before using them.

I have heard amazing things about Xandrox 12.5%, half the guys using it are regrowing their hairline, the other half had to quit it because it irritated their skin (I'm not being accurate here on the percentage). So start off with 5% and get used to it first, you don't want to make your hair go in to the telegen phase. Also use EMU Oil, especially if Xandrox irritates your skin.

Do a test area for a few months to make sure you don't react bad to it. Remember once you start minoxidil you will have to take it for the rest of your life just like Propecia.

Be careful with Propecia and anything stronger than it. Everyone can react different to it. I was on it for five months and it distroyed my hairline, I wasn't shedding at the hairline either before starting it. Apparently I'm part of the 1% that gets a bad reacion from Propecia, it can shock your body.

I noticed my hair receding at age 17!...... and now I'm really getting worried, because the sides of my head are really thin, and my hairline still seems to be receding.. slowly.. but surely........ I wrote an email to a hair doctor once, and he reccommended some pill that blocks the DHT from getting to your hair. and that 9/10 guys it stopped hairloss... too bad I forgot what that was called....

has anyone seen a doctor about this? instead of trying to find over the counter stuff? I have a feeling that what ever the doctor has will be better.

I'm not at the point of this, but I'm going to throw it out there... Hairplugs...... they aren't what they were 5 years ago. They take the hair from the back of your head which is permenent unlike the top of your head, and place it anywhere else on ur head, and it willl grown their like normal... they've gotten so good at it now that you really can't tell that u have plugs, years ago they used to put in 10 hairs like ever half inch apart, but with technology they can make it look a lot more natural... I think this is a pretty good option

If my hair starts to go at this rate, maybe in a couple years I'm going to get it...

oh and BTW.... standing on your head to get blood to the hair is a MYTH.... that doesn't do jack

genaric propecia is called proscar---

I got some Q's too
---------------------
I've heard some things about propecia/proscar that it gives u bitch tits and other weird shit. Somthing to do with the test. and the estrogen.

Has anyone heard or experienced this?

At 18 I feel I might be still growing and getting more broad... will propecia stuff stunt my growth?

Is a doctors prestription needed, or are there places to order it off the internet?

I wish I took something when I was 20 when the thinning and balding started. (I was scared it would mess with erections)

Now @ 22 I have tempels (thank god they are small)

3 Month ago I bought real Proscar (5mg) wich I cut into 4 pieces with a knife (don't even care if they are even) and took one piece daily for the last 3 month.

Well what ca I say. I'm amazed. Fallout stopped completely and hair is thickening and regrowing everywhere. I have thick hair coming out of the temples wich were bald for atleast 1-1.5 years.

Didn't mess with erections at all.

I wouldn't bother with anything else . Like rogaine or minox. Too messy to greasy and hard to maintain a steady and disciplined application routine. Incase propecia or proscar works for you - STICK to it !

Men report that their hair situation keeps on improoving even in year 6 and 7 and 8 of continous use.

Just never go of it unless you want the "sexy" look :)

A great book on hair loss and regrowing your hair naturally without drugs. "The Baldness Cure" author is Andy Bryant. Dispells alot of the DHT theory.
A method of stimulating hair growth I came across in an old book on reflexology is "fingernail buffing". Take your hands in front of you and curl your fingers in towards your palms and buff your nails back and forth very fast for ten minutes twice a day. This supposedely stimulates the same nervous pathway between our hair and nails. The book swears it is a miracle for regrowing your hair. Your fingernails should buzz with energy after ten mins. The book this is found in is called "Body Reflexology" I think the authors name is Betty Edwards.

Where did you buy the Proscas you are taking now, and at what price ?

Have you had any side effect from using it ?

I bought it high priced at local pharmacie. No side effects at all. I did so because I didn't want to take any chances with generic stuff from the internet and end up with less hair then before. Later I heard that viagragod kausion_420 also can provide help with generic propecia/proscar. He can be trusted 100%. Next time I need to buy some I'll get back to him.

Btw, the reason for not taking propecia/proscar earlier for me was : there was just too much controversy. For every guy on the net who said "wow it regrew all of my hair" , i found one guy who said he got shockfallout and limp dick.
Afterall I was desperate to try it and I was lucky that it works for me.

I'd advise caution with propecia/proscar/finasteride (all the same drug, blocks conversion to DHT). I was on it for six years, and it definitely helped my hair a great deal, though its effect diminished over time. What also diminished over time was my sex drive, and it happened so slowly I didn't really notice it until i was having major problems with both desire and performance. A month after stopping the drug I felt like a new man - the difference really amazed me. I have to say I'd rather be a virile man with less hair, than a virtual eunuch with a great head of hair.

To anyone on it or contemplating it, please be aware you are definitely dealing with major shifts in your hormonal chemistry. Not something to be taken lightly. The drug company Merck seems to be understating the actual prevalence of sexual side effects of a drug that interacts directly with sex hormones. Bottom line - be on the watch for side effects, and listen to your body.

DO what ? Can someone translate this into something I can understand ? Is it like : Scrub my inner palms with the tips of my fingernails back and forth ?

tbirdy, I think you got it right. It's very simple, put your hands in front of your chest with your palms facing towards each other and curl your fingers in towards your palms. Then briskly buff your fingernails back and forth very fast for about 10 minutes. When you stop, your fingernails and fingertips should buzz or tingle with "energy". This old book that I read about this in had a few personal cases where people swore that by doing this twice a day there grey hair started to return to it's original color, they stopped losing their hair and re-grew there hair in areas that were receding. That and it makes your hair grow thick and fast. There were some old pics of this old guy buffing his nail and he had an insane thick head of hair and swore that buffing his nails was the reason. I've never came across this technique in any other book. The science behind it was that your nails and hair are composed of the same keratin protien and their growth and health are related. By stimulating the energy in your nail beds by buffing, your hair is stimulated as well because they share the same energy pathway in the body.
Who knows maybe something this simple is the magic key for us folliclly challenged guys. I've never practiced buffing religously so I can't say as to it's effectiveness. I can keep it up for about 2 weeks then lose my discipline. Alot like Penis Enlargement for myself. The book said it takes months for noticeable results, as with most anything.

Hi sasquatch,
Just to clarify, when you say "buff your fingernails" against your palm you sort of do like a moping motion just like when you mop the floor when cleaning, right?

You could just do this motion on a hard surface like a desk, right? Seems much easier than doing against the palm of my hands. Thanks.

I'm thinkin' you're supposed to rub your nails against each other, at least that would make more sense to me. I not one for this energy/voodoo stuff but I would try about anything.

A device was designed to automatically "buff" your nails for you. The designers tested the unit on a handfull of subjects with different levels of hair loss and reported significant improvements in stopping hair loss and new growth. They applied for a patent but I've never seen the thing for sale. Kind of like the "Power Jelq" in the sence that you can probably do just as well doing it by hand if not better.
The motion of the exercise is that you just "buff" your nail back and forth across each other "left hand against right hand" very rapidly. Your nails and fingertips should tingle when you are done.

Yeah, that's what I thought in the first place. I thought he meant use the tip of your fingernails to scrub up against your palm but I think he's saying just rub your fingernails (not finger tips) of your left hand against the nails of your right hand. This is much easier 'cause scrubbing my fingertips against my palms hurts like a bitch.

Look at this link:
http://holisticonline.com/Remedies/Hair/hair_loss_massage.htm
Reflexology Nails are the reflexes for the hair and scalp. Five minutes buffing of the fingernails of one hand against the other daily may help hair and scalp problems.

I'm gonna do my kegels and finger buffing at the same time everyday.

Motlissof, since you first started using Rogaine and or Propecia, how much approx. do you think you have spent on the stuff ?? You are the only person I've heard of to use these products consistantly for 7 to 8 years.

motlissof said:
abandoned the propecia because I knew that a new product was soon to come out that stopped both the pathways that testosterone takes to destroy hair on front and top of head and propecia helped only with one.
It's DHT

Hey...

I've been thinning since Junior High for crying out loud. I am now a senior and have been on Propecia for a little over a month. My hair was seeming to do just a tad better, by not seeing as much of it falling out during the day and what not.

Hairloss is depressing as heck. I have to constantly go to the bathroom between classes and make sure the bald spots are covered up! I wear my hair sorta long anyway, so it helps but when I graduate I can't wait to shave it.

Does anyone know of generic form of avodart. I just switched from propecia to that one which interferes with both routes of hair follicle destruction that cause loss of hair on top and front of head. But damn if it is not expensive as stated in earlier posting. Hope it works, if I see any improvement in next few months will post here. Tom

I would not take Avodart. Propecia elimenates 70% of the DHT in your body and Avodart eimenates 95% of the DHT but is only marginally better at reducing DHT on your scalp (very slightly). DHT is a hormone you need. They left they FDA trials for hair loss on Avodart. They claim low sides like gyno and sexual disfunction, but these two will be high with so little DHT. Removing this much DHT is a very bad idea. Putting this drug out like it is all the answers to stop hair loss, was a very bad idea.

You must use rogaine and you must take propecia. not the generic if you smoke 420, it will give you panic attacks and mimic a fake heart attack! scary shitz! these medicines are the only fda approved solutions for hair loss. the idea keep what you have and regrow some back. And if you can afford go to bosley medical and get hair replacement surgery. Full amount 2000 - 2300 grafts $10,000. I promise it worked wonders for me!!!! i can have 2 more of these full amount surgeries over my lifetime! Bosley gave me my confidence back! it really works! amazing technology!

I didnt know this was SWM thread. That just changed everything for me. You need to go to http://www.minoxidil.com/ . This is hands down the best place for hair loss stuff. Get yourself a script for Proscar (aka Finasteride), this comes in a 5mg tab that can be broken up into 4s (no more isnt better lol ). Plus most insurance plans view it for prostate probs, so it is covered by most insurances, Propecia it cosmetic (even though they are both Finasteride). Propecia is more cosstly, lower dose, and likely not covered by insurance.
At minoxidil.com get some 940 Xandrox15 LIQUID without Propylene Glycol, 125 mL for morning application and the 600 Standard Xandrox 5%, 65 mL for night. Xandrox is a mixture of minoxidil (rogaine) and azelaic acid. Minoxidil is a potassium channel-k opener, IOW it makes hair grow faster. Azelaic acid blocks DHT 100%. With minoxidil you may see some initial shedding, depending on what phase a hair follicle is in. Also shampoo at night with 420 Regrowth Treatment Shampoo 4 Oz, it contains 2% ketocanzole and 3% salicylic acid which aids in keto penetration but helps keep the scalp from drying out too. Keto inhibits the formation of DHT. If it dries out your scalp too much, 3x's a week is fine.
My last weapon in my arsonel is http://www.lasercomb.net/ . I fully expect to get laughed at for this, but the thing is dang effective. I see lots of people hating on this, but they are using it alone. The thing doesnt stop DHT, which tells me it cant be used alone and people saying it sucks are using alone.
Hair growth is slow, so give it 6 months before you expect to see anything. I myself saw results in 1 month. You can still be having results for the next 3 years. Once a hair follicle is gone, its is gone. Treatment will not help it. The point of this is to keep the hair you have. Good luck.

i just ordered kevis.com this looks like it might work

I've heard that Kevis(aka Scamis) is basically shampoo and lotion with Hyaluronic acid, and considered a scam, ripoff, etc. People on hairloss forums that have used it say it does nothing. $1100 per year, and it doesn't work!

I like to check out hairlosshelp.com's forums for the latest on this subject, but there are others that are also good. There is tons experience there with much less expensive treatments that are working for them.

My hair regimen is 5% minoxidil once per day, and .33 mg finasteride once per day. My hair did improve a lot when I started this, and got to the point where there aren't any thin areas, but my hairline didn't improve much. It's been a couple of years and things have been steady. Who knows, maybe I'll read up on the latest and change my program.

I buy generic proscar called fincar and dissolve it in liquor to get the .33mg dose. I also add 10mg of finasteride to 60ml generic minoxidil. My monthly cost is well under $10.

I'm balding and it sucked at first. Now, I don't give a crap anymore. The only thing I hate is people calling me a freakin' basketball player every three seconds.
