I go to the gym two or three days a week. To be honest lately, its been two times a week as I hurt for two days after I go to the gym usually. I spend about 30 minutes doing wieghts on each visit - so I am not in there a long time ! I do seem to be gaining, but whats wrong with me ?!?!?

nothing is wrong with you...sore for 2 days is not always a cause for alarm. Trying doing body splits....ex on Monday and Thursday do all upperbody (except biceps) then on tuesdays and fridays do legs (and Bi's). If you are really that concerned about being so sore buy some glutamine, get more vitamin c, get enough protein, and get a good amount of calcium.

You can train your body to not get as sore, by going more often and working through the soreness. Working through soreness is not a bad thing, unless it is a sharp severe pain. You should be able to train your whole body 3 times a week.

workouts after a long period of rest tend to give more soreness... It disapears with time. But it's a great sign non the less that you had a gr8 workout :)

hHydromaxmm, i train each muscle once/ week and have done for the last 3 years (on and off). my muscles are sore for 5 days. my chest is now recovering from mondays session :s

5 days is a long period man ...

Sometimes I'm sore for 3 or 4 days after a hard workout. I usually don't train tha muscle group again until I'm not sore. If I don't wait I'll go light. The goal is to stimulate, not annihilate. Legs are where I stay the most sore, which is one reaon doing them sucks. But it is a necessary evil...

No, it's only a great sign that you're currently in pain. It has nothing to do with the effectiveness of the workout. Judge your workouts by progress made, not by pain experienced.

To the original question, in my experience you don't get nearly as sore if you train more often. Doing full-body workouts 3 times per week will not leave you as sore as doing say, a "leg day," with several sets of several different leg exercises. And you'll surprise yourself with the strength and size gains you'll make on a well-designed full-body program vs. a body part split (which never really made much sense to me anyway).

And BTW, "overtraining" is a serious condition where you're constantly tired, not able to function well, losing strength, getting sick, etc. It takes a while for this condition to build up, and if you're eating and resting plenty you shouldn't have any reason to worry about overtraining unless you're quite advanced or on a really bad, overdone program. I think people make way too big of a deal of "overtraining." It really shouldn't be much of an issue.

This isnt overtraining what I'm gunna post but a intense muscle workout I gave the triceps the othernight, lastweek.

I did 3x10 close arm push-ups ... my god did I feel it for FOUR to FIVE days afterwards ... only today I dont feel the soreness.

It wasnt a pain ... it was just the muscle had been worked that much ... my triceps actually looked more fuller and pumped during the sore days ... I havent yet started my full body workout [starts tommorow] so I'm very optimistic about it.

In reply to people saying that being sore isnt a good sign that your muscles are well worked, that is incorrect. The reason they get sore is because when they are worked hard they tear a little and lactic acid is released, this then causes them to grow stronger and bigger. If you don't get sore, you may want to change your routine up- just like in Penis Enlargement.

DOMS arn't a good indicator of how effective a workout is,changing your routine because you are not experiancing sorness is sili,if you are increasing pondages on the big basic lifts then there is no need for change.
