Hi guys. I am planning to join up a gym or something. But i need help as i have never been to a gym before. The only exercise i use to do is run. and sometimes swim. But for last one year i just dont feel well. i even tried to improve my diet but didnt help. so i think i should a join a fitness center.

Can someone help me with some tips to choose a good gym. and also with some basic exercises and diet? maybe this question has been asked many times before but then even if you guys can point me out to correct threads i would be grateful.

first you need to do is just show up and ask do they run a program for you, basic stuff and a chart to get you going!
You will learn food and supplements when you run into guys who are doing it for years, and i do not mean roiders!

Ash some guys around you will be astonished how many are willing to help you out even train with you just to get you going...

yah..thanks (especially more for the calc ;))..but how can i know that they r charging me right price for what they provide?

Well pricing on gym memberships very, so you will have to do your research, I pay $320 a year, which is higher than most pay by month gyms. I like to pay cash for the year because there is no need to give them my checking info for auto pay, plus no contracts to sign.

When it comes to knowing what to do, most gyms offer a free personal training session or two when you sign up, and you have the board here for help. I have a friend that is a personal trainer; I can get you some pricing.

Have you completely ruled out a home gym? Shitloads cheaper, in the long run, and you can use it when-the-fuck-ever-you-choose.
No waiting for an over-used machine...
AND no athletes foot from the shower.

YES, that is a good option; I wish I had the room for it! I much rather wake up early and workout, go for a run, then go to work :)

And never discount "calisthenics"; you can get one fuck of a workout with just your own bodyweight!

Yeah, check out Convict Conditioning from www.dragondoor.com

Spent my last deployment doing only this. Got ripped without trying to cut weight. Six months, I had a one arm pull up and cranked out 34 two hand wearing boots and uts. Never touched a bench press til the end and put up 190 which was almost 40lbs over my bw.

This is a pretty good thread along this topic Here

Sometimes when I write something out I'm going to do I never get to it. Just try to get going what you want done rather than focusing on what the plan is.

Never, ever, ever, ever let these Personal Trainers hassle you. Make sure you look around any gym before making your decision. Tell them you'd like atleast a three day pass to get use to the equipment. After that, try to negotiate an agreement. I know the one I went to was a chick and she waived the fees ( which was going to be 83, but I only had to pay 39. :p ) and on top of that gave me access to one other facility near me as well. Gotta' talk to these peeps sometimes. Don't let them push you over.

YES, any good gym will give you a pass, a weekly pass a that. If all they offer is a 3-day that's fine. post back with how many days you expect to get to the gym, and we can further help outline some workouts.

That sounds cool. So what should i really look for in a gym? i mean just some fancy equipments make a good gym or something else?

Dude, have you never worked out before?
The first thing you need to answer is: What do you want to do with your body. THEN you need to figure out at least the rudiments of working out. If you can't asked informed questions then a salesman can feed you any line o' crap and you won't know the difference.

Why don'tcha do some research, do some exercising at home, get familiar with the way your body responds and get a little more familiar with some of the most basic exercises you'll encounter at a typical gym.
All the fancy gear in the world is useless, if you can't work it.

Thats what i said right in the begining. The only exercise i have ever ever did is running and swiming. With some push ups at time. I have never been inside a gym ever. Now that i am finding it quite difficult to keep fit, i think i should go to a fitness center or somehting. And i need some tips for that.

Well then, like I suggested; you need to find out what you want from your body and what you are capable of. If you want general fitness and good cardio your needs are gonna be a lot different than someone who wants a 500 lb bench press.

When it comes to your health every bit of research and preparation is worth its weight in gold.
That said; don't get lost in the "Paralysis of Analysis."

I want to build up some stamina. Not so much muscles really . You know that "feeling" when you get when you are healthy? Man i just dont feel that way anymore. To get that feeling back again is very important. I wana get that again as quickly as possible.

Here's an option you may not have thought about: A good Martial Arts studio.
Not only will a good one teach you focus & coordination but will enhance strength, flexibility, endurance and teach you how to find inner strength and self-confidence you may have thought you'd never possess.

Many of the bigger ones even have gyms.
Give it a shot.

Good luck.
