Okay, round one is done. I've got no pools or money going on anything from here on out, but figured you guys would want to chime in for fun. What are your thoughts from this weekend's games and what do you think will happen from here on out?

Gotta go with the odds and say Colts v. Seahawks, but I'll never count out Brady and the Pats until their done. They looked like they were on a mission yesterday.

In the NFC, I don't see anyone derailing the Seahawks train to Detroit Rock City, but the AFC is another story. Steelers, Pats, or Colts could all do the deed, IMO, but I'm not so big on Denver this year. I just haven't bought into Jake Plummer.

I really want to see Manning and the Colts win it. The guy lives footbal, by all accounts, and I would like to see that kind of life dedication result in a SB win. That said, I have loved Shaun Alexander since his days in Crimson, and I would like to see him get his due after busting his balls in Seattle for the last few years with little appreciation (until now). Steelers... the Bus deserves a ring, and this probably his last year. The Pats have had glory, but it's hard for me to not like the team discipline they have. They are probably the best "team" in football in years. I was listening to an interview the other day where the reporter asked how potentially acquiring Terrell Owens would affect the Pats as a team. The player wouldn't even entertain the question, he just flat out stated that Owens will never be a part of that team, no matter how much talent he possesses. I admire that attitude.

Seahawks=overated. However wins the AFC will win the super bowl.

The Pats are the Champs until someone beats them. I hate Peyton Manning and anything that comes from Tennesse. I love Tony Dungy and have since he coached the Bucs, and I've been a Bucs fan a long time. The NFC will probably be pretty brutal this next week, unless Seattle jumps all over the Skins. I think Chicago can come through with a couple of wins to get into Superbowl 40 with their defense and as long as the offense doesn't turn the ball over and can score a couple of times. Just like the Ravens in 2000, they have a good front 7 with a linebacker who can make plays and a secondary, specifically safeties that will hunt you down if you have the ball. It'll be interesting to see how this all washes out, but it'll get worked out on the field. GO PATS!!!

Okay, I must devote an entire thread to this one issue/rant. I like Manning too. He seems like the most likeable guy in the world and loves the game of football. For the record, I always thought O.J. Simpson seemed like the nicest guy too. :D

Still, I have to HATE the Colts. I have to HATE all teams that play in a dome. That's not real football. That is not the way the game is meant to be played. The artificial surfaces found in most domes already give the home team some advantage, being able to play on it all the time. More importantly is the increased crowd noise. The homefield advantage should be all about the fans and the natural weather environment. When a crowd is loud and rowdy and distracts the visiting team from its play calls, that is just part of the game. When this effect is magnified by a completely unnecessary roof, it becomes an unfair and unreasonable advantage.

Reports are that the Colts had recorded crowd noise playing over their PA system in the Monday night game against Pittsburgh, in addition to the crowd noise generated by the fans attending that game. That is called CHEATING your way to a victory. Any team caught doing that (and I'm sure it has been done before) should have to forfeit that game--plain and simple. Yesterday, in Cincinnati, the Steelers had a hard time hearing their signals early in the game, but at least that was just the natural part of playing on the road. No one magnified the impact by putting a roof on the stadium that was completely unnecessary.

Atlanta, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Minnesota, Detroit, and New Orleans: I hate your franchises for making a mockery of the game we all learned to play our in backyards when soaking wet, and I wish nothing but the worst of luck to you all. Houston and Dallas don't get off completely either. Dallas almost has a dome, only allowing a rather small opening. Houston will at least retract the roof at times and at least has real grass to play on.

Okay, I guess you folks know how I feel about domes. :)

Here here to you Penguinsfan. I don't like Dome stadiums either, unless there's a concert going on, then they're not so bad. I just can't stand Peyton Manning. Have you ever noticed how quiet the fans get when the Colts have the ball? What is that shit about? I don't care if he audibles every damn play of the game, make some damn noise while they have the ball. It may be a "smart" thing to do, but isn't football about making noise and being loud even if your team has the ball? When was the last time a home crowd was quite at a Pats game, or a steelers game? They don't get quiet. They let their team hear em, and let em know that they're still there. Every time I watch a Colts game and it gets so damned quite I can honsetly believe that everyone in the entire crowd died, that or the all collectively had to piss. Fuck INDY, and forever may the PATRIOTS reign.

I will say again that I love Tony Dungy, but Peyton Manning can suck a big orange for all I care.

I think the world of Tony Dungy. I still like Manning, as he seems like a class-act guy. He certainly impresses me more than his brother in that area. Yes, the Colts fans don't seem like the quality, rowdy fans in some of the other cities you mentioned. Perhaps the fans are so much more quiet when Manning has the ball because the volume is adjusted in the PA sound booth. ;)

Peyton manning has the people around him that make him great. Look at half is td passes. They are screens or swing passes that go 50 yards. Rarley does he ever make a long pass.

One could argue that Tom Brady is better in that regard. The Patriots have a core of solid receivers, but do not have a particular superstar that would even be worthy of mention in the same sentence as Marvin Harrison. The Patriots passing game is great because of Brady's composure and poise under pressure. The guy will find like eight different receivers every game.

I still like Manning and I don't think his teammates totally carry him, but he does not have the mental intangibles that someone like Brady has. I question whether Manning will ever keep his composure long enough to get through enough rounds to win the big one, whereas I question whether or not the Patroits would have ever won a Super Bowl without Tom Brady.
