I honestly don't think it matters. This used to be a big issue over at another forum (which I haven't visited in months). There were all these prescribed rules of "before & after" times, etc.
There's times when I had mad wood & had to spank it - or there'd be no workout. And I had a very good session afterwards. And, there's times when I was doing holds or erect bends was 100% - but wouldn't go down (too "worked up", if you know what I mean) - so I'd spank it.
So, I've done it both immediately before & after - and I've never noticed any negative effects.
So, I'm quite skeptical about time constraints - I think it was something that's just be repeated so often that it's come to be believed (without merit).
