DLD jelqs everyday, but like he said that is his choice. I venture to bet that most of us don't jelq everyday. And for every successful story from someone who does, there are others from guys who take rest days. I don't dare compare myself to the vets here, but when I jelq I hit it pretty hard. I have never gone more than three days in a row jelqing, and quite frankly just like my rest days from lifting, I am glad to have a day here and there off. Like everything in life, one size does not fit all, and each of us needs to chart our own course. Seek advice yes, experiment yes, but just because Mr. ABC does something one way, does not mean that it will be the best way for Mr. DEF.
I jelq at all erection levels, as I feel something slightly different is gained from each. When I am under 60% erect I concentrate on both a good jelq, and a good stretch. When I am harder than that I concentrate only on the jelq. The more erect you are, the lighter your grip should be. Squeeze your pride and joy too hard when nearly erect and your are just asking for broken blood veins and such. A good jelqing speed is five seconds per jelq. A little slower or a litter faster isn't going to change things much. Personally, I was up to 600+ five second jelqs per workout, but have cut that in half. I do three sets of 50 each v-jelqs (hits the cs real good) and 50 regulars (hits the cc especially well). I throw in about five horse squeezes while doing the regulars, and I finish up with 10 five second, four finger squeezes. My test for what constitutes a good jelq is that as my jelqing hand approaches my glans, I touch my glans with my other hand. If my glans is very hard to rock hard, then I have jelqed correctly. If my glans is soft when I touch it, I need improve my stroke pressure.
