For all the Edgers/Ballooners

When you guys are edging about how many times do you think you come close to climaxing before you finish off your session? I know DLD recommends about 30 minutes of edging but I feel that a number of near-climaxes would be little more helpful and pave way to start increasing repetitions as well.

Exactly. It also increases the pelvic floor muscles strength and endurance and this too adds up as the cementing of gains, harder erections and lasting pretty much as long as you like in bed. One very important question to ask is if one can ejaculate after edging for 30 minutes.
