I was just wondering what protein everyone used here. I use Optimum Nutritions 100% whey because it taste good and it is super cheap. I get a 10lb bag at massnutrition.com for around $76. Chocolate is my favorite, doesn't clump up like some proteins I've had and its not thick at all, its like chocolate milk.

Any better prices out there?

It actually doesn't matter what quality protein you purchase. Many studies have shown its not the quality nor the quantity but when the protein is consumed. Anyway I used to take Whey Protein and than Egg protein powders. I buy a cheap one from bulkpowders.com and it has served me well for what I use it for. Dont be bought into the false hype about product X which can add 30lbs of muscle to your frame and has 100% protein in it ... doesn't matter, the body cant tell the difference between the protein from a shake and the protein from a burger.

Yeah, a little more specific about redzulu's post, dont buy muscletech products, its all flash no fire (w/ multiple other brands)
My protein of choice is Optimum nutrition... it taste good, good quality, and fairly reasonable price... Although I think ON is somewhat flash its still a good product

That muscletech nitrotech hardcore and shit like that is all flash... they say it will add 17 lbs in 2 weeks etc but it is also packed with CREATINE... = all WATER weight
fuck muscletech they are dogshit ripoffs

What are you trying to do? Weight loss? Bulking? just lifting?

Shit chiliwhacker, I'm hammered honestly I didn't see that you said you like ON.. I love that shit too...
but yeah what are you trying to do? Weight loss? Bulking? Just lifting? Or you simply want to know what everyones fav. protein is?

Its like the fancy crap sold by Gaspari Nutrition such as Superpump, its all a gimmick really. Stick to basic brands, keep it simple like egg protein and it works better ... good luck.

I stick to isolate whey just to avoid adding extra cholesterol to my diet. I'm not a body builder but i'm over 6 feet and weight train(splits) daily so i use the protein to keep from getting hungry as well as to add some muscle. i think it also keeps me from getting sore as much. i've seen alot cheaper protein but what i'm after specifically is taste and cholesterol content.
my favourite brand and flavour is allmax isoflex vanilla, i also drink the ultimate nutrition breezer as just a regular drink (ice tea or pineapple) throughout the day.

i have tried true protien also which you can get really cheap with them but i couldnt' commit to getting that much of one flavour.

your digestive system can tell the difference

To answer the question whats your Protein of choice? - Salmon :)

The body can tell the difference with the foods but it wont know if the protein is from a shake or a berger, thats my point here. I know liquid protein is digested faster than burger protein etc and is how the digestive system would differentiate how to deal with the source of food which is what I assume you mean and I didnt make clear. Protein IS PROTEIN at the end of the day, no matter how you wrap it up and serve it ... Egg, fish, beef and liver are very good sources but if one shovels powder protein down the throat the body wont know where this protein is from, it just deals with it like it and see's at as merely protein and not protein from a berger or protein from a shake.

Right.
I wonder why every single bodybuilder on the planet is not doing 20 protein shakes a day instead of eating portions of beef, chicken, fish, eggs throught the day when you say it works this way :D

god damn, why I didnt think of it first =/ :D

No, Im sorry for making fun of you.

To clear it up for you. Protein is made up from little something called amino acids, which I think there are about 20 types of amino acids from proteins.
Different sources have different of composition.
Plant sources have different composition thn animal sources andd so on and so on , is that clear enough for you?
So you see for your body there is a difference, how can it break down the maino acids from different sources.

If you wish me to clear it up more for you (althou i believe it should be pretty clear), i can even scan you some pictures of the different compositions of aminos from meat, whey, plants, whatever you need.

I hope I helped you understand why eating 200g of protein from cow isnt the same as getting same amount from shake.

Keep up the good work buddy.

Protein is protein, again this is simple and doesn't matter where it comes from because your body deals with it. Yes its different to digest from a shake to a cow but its protein. Guys get too caught up in this 80%,85%,90% etc quality which is mentioned on protein shakes. It does not matter and I will find some links to that. I know all about Amino Acids, thats not my point here ... you have again misunderstood me and if you look back to my last post in this thread I even say the body deals with different sources in how it feels necessarily.

This is a good topic because we can save tons of money by keeping it simple, such as below which is a simple protein shake from Arthur Jones ... he knew more about this than you'll ever do mate - Konstantin.

This will make 2/3 servings and you need as follows

1) 4 raw eggs
2) One half cup of soy powder (This can be skipped later on)
3) One and one half cups of powdered milk (Non-fat)
4) Enogh chocolate powder to give suitable taste
5) Enough skimmed milk to bring the mixture to a proper liquid

Mix the above in a blender or shaker. You consume one in morning, after workout and before retiring for the night.
You can substitute the Soy Powder for one half cup of milk powder, doesn't matter.

I have used baby powdered milk instead of milk powder if I can get it cheaper, if you use that use the one next up from new borns milk as it has more protein to it. That stuff is also closely to match breast milk. If you can find cheap Colostrum which is from New Zealand mostly and sourced from mother cows who are needing to feed young calves than use that. Full of good stuff.

This if all sourced cheaply is just as good like any top brand and you know what your putting in. In fact you could add other tit-bits if you like such as after a workout throwing in some carbs like Dextrose into the mix which is cheap as chips proven carbs. I'll get some more recipes on here especially from Vince Gironda because his were pretty exotic at times, way ahead of his era.

Eggs and Cows milk are very high grade proteins, that and also raw liver from bovine sources. I use Desiccated liver which is more potent than raw liver, I cant stomach cooked liver or liver for that matter but that is a fine way to get it into you and full of protein amino acids and b vitamins, plus very easily taken by the body unlike some proteins which aren't as easy for the body to take the goodness from.

If you can stick with natural type protein sources.

Because many are on a good thing with the companies that make the protein shakes. They wont revert as much to some of the older methods to which dieting in bodybuilding was used, that worked when the shakes weren't around as much.

Red's pretty much nailed it all down. Protein IS protein. Also, most companies buy their whey in bulk from usually ONE, maybe two sources ;) Little insider secret about the industry for ya's. Usually, the only difference between brands comes from the flavorings and such added. Companies such as true protein for example sell to most of the "big boys" in the industry. The only thing left to decide most of the time with protein...after you figure out how much you need to take in daily, is how much per ounce you want to pay for it LOL ;) Shopping in bulk is always the way to go. My specific brands I like that I have actually USED: True Protein, Met-Rx, Iso-Pure.

I was using Optimum Nutrition for about a month, and like someone previously said its pretty good taste wise and doesn't clump up, even if you stir it in a regular cup with a spoon! Now i"m trying Ultimate Nutrition Iso Mass Xtreme Gainer which already has a carb blend if your looking for a meal replacement. This stuff has everything from vitamins, creatine, Nitric oxide, omegas, and an enzyme blend for proper digestion.I workout pretty hard so i need 6 balanced protein and carb meals throughout the day. Keep yous posted on how it works out!

ULTIMATE NUTRITION PROSTAR WHEY, not very good taste, but mixes good and i get not digestion problem!
But still searching for better taste protein...

Steak:) Lots and lots of steak:)

NSI brand from Vitacost.com.
And, if ya got a problem with clumping, just stir with a fork instead of a spoon.
Worked great for me for years.

The best protein for me is the milk, eggs and fish. Because fish is the best source of protein. And eggs can also be used as proteins because it has power and i like to have these proteins as a favorite.

I love fish and it is also excellent for brain chemistry. Eggs are great too but lose the yolk.
