Hi,

I am about 5 foot 9, and 185 pounds. Im overweight right now but im going to the gym and lifting about 3-4 times and week, and swim afterwards and play basketball and stuff on other days. Is there any supplement you guys would recommend for me to take like before, after, during my workouts or whatever to help in losing fat and gaining more muscle. Nothing like too hardcore though im not a beginner but still not ready for anything heavy. maybe some kind of protein shake?? i dunno. anyways, let me know what you guys think... thanks

Pre - Lots of Carbs, lots of protein.
During - 4 to 1, Carbs to protein.
Post - A few carbs, shitloads of protein.

These are the eating guidelines for muslcle development. Carbohydrates is where you get the energy from to build muscles, and protein is what the muscles need to feed on. Balance is key.

Your daily maximum of protein

  1. should be about 1g for every 2.2lbs of bodyweight. Everyone should have supplement protein as people's usual diet does not include enough. But you get protein from eggs, cheese, meat, nuts. Protein is very important, if you do nothing else, make sure you have lots of protein.

Creatine can help when building muscle, to give the muscles more strength, but I used it for a month and then stopped, only to find it made my muscles feel less tight and hard, but there was negligble effect on my strength.

Glutamine can help with the regrowth of muscles, for faster recovery.

You should take a multivitamin and a cod liver oil tablet once a day. Multivitamins are vital as people usually don't get enough fruit-a-day, and therefore don't meet there RDA (recommended daily allowance). Fish oil tablets help keep healthy, supple joints, but people also don't eat fish every day!

However, you want to lose weight, so my advice is
Drink loadsa water (Don't get dehydrated, and its very important to drink plenty of water if supplementing)
eat alot in the morning (you will get less hungry during the day)
eat smaller meals regularly (try eating 6 small meals a day to keep your metabolism high, making your body more efficient at burning food)
eat less carbs in the 2nd half of the day (because that energy you don't use when you sleep will store as fat)
only eat wholegrain carbs (such as wholemeal bread, oats, unsalted nuts) stay away from processed carbs (any white bread, white rice)
train in the gym as much as possible (To lose weight RUN! To grow muscle PUSH!) Do abit of both, but i would suggest more running.
Don't worry if you struggle in the first few weeks, your body adapts to the diet and extra stress, and so it gets easier.

    Hope this helps. Good Luck.

P.s. Dunno if this helps Penis Enlargement, but I assume that protein and glutamine may help for muscle development and regrowth, because after all, the penis is a muscle. Let you know after I've been seriously Penis Enlargementing for a while.

I think you should take more than 1 gram of protien per 2.2lb of body weight. Generally it is 1 gram for every pound of lean body mass. Just try to get about 150 grams a day. To lose weight, try to do most of your eating within 3 or 4 hours after you workout.
Otherwise amino acids are good. Arginine, glutamine, etc.

First thing in the morning you need a fast absorbing protien because you havnt eaten in 8+ hours,so whey in water is a must, followed half hour later with a solid meal.

Pre workout, mackrel and a couple of slices of wholemeal bread,or whey shake couple of rice cakes.

Post workout you need to get a fast absorbing protien and simple carbs in as soon as possible. 50g whey in water with 30-40g glucose or a banana. followed an hour later with a solid meal of protien and complex carbs.

Before bed you need a slow absorbing protien, casinate shake or whey in milk, cottage cheese ect.

post workout shake is a must you have just broken down muscle tissue and it needs protien and carbs to start to repair itself, you need to have this before your swim,i wouldnt recommend swimming after a weight workout myself but its your choice.

To lose weight you need to eat lots of small meals at regular intervals, you also need to increase protien while dieting to help prevent muscle loss.

Here are a couple of good links.

u dont need any suuplements.what u need to do to lose weight is do cardio at the gym and lift less.i do an hour of cardio 5 days a week at the gym which equals to 110 miles a week ridin the bike in the gym. i sweat alot and lose weight.u MUST eat right also or else all the exercise wont help. ive lost 70 pds in 7 months.now i'm cut up from all my previous working out and healthy as i have ever been.

The best supplement if you working out and want to see steady results is good quality whey protein. Any kind of protein is good (generally speaking) but whey protein has the highest BV (biological value) and is easy to consume.
By supplementing your diet with protein however, your not going to see gains over night. Your gains will be consistent but not fast.
Besides focusing on protein, I'd try and eat five times a day. Smaller meals but increase the frequency. This keeps your body's metabolism higher burning more calories and feeds your muscles better than eating only 3 times a day.
Getting started, those would be my two recommendations. :)

If you have the time, devote an hour to cardio a day. If not, lift weights and do some HITT cardio to save time. Eat healthy, watch your carb intake and try to stay away from any kind of pop and you should be fine.

Are protein shakes necessary from the beginning? ie is your body going to be in an optimal condition for absorbing and processing 1gram of protein per lb of lean mass, or will alot of it be wasted?

Your muscles get broken down more when you first start out. Thats why you might be sore for days after one moderate workout. Protien is needed to rebuild muscle tissue, and reduce the amount of time your muscles are sore. It is definitely worth taking at the beginning at the same amount.

185 isnt overweight for you bro--

unless you have over 15% bodyfat-

im around 200 myself
& only 5 8" ish

Actually you have to be in the 20%+ range before you can be considered overweight. Even 20 would be balancing on slightly overweight/normal. Most ''average'' guys who don't work out are somewhere in the 14-25% range.

Shafty, just out of curiosity, do you happen to know what that girl is screaming in your avatar?

You need to go on a cutting diet and burn off more calories through lifting and cardio than you consume each day. The site is down but like this is hands down THE best Penis Enlargement site, www.abcbodybuilding.com is the number one bodybuilding, diet, supplement site. All of the members there are highly religious and are always willing to help you. You'll learn all you need to know about bodybuilding and fat burning. Also, the only supplements they recommend are Maltodextrin, Dextrose, Protein, Glutamine, Multivitamins, and Creatine. Most others either don't offer much help like all of these fat burning supplements advertised on TV or have too many negative side affects on the body and especially liver such as Prohormones, steroids, and things like NO2.

http://www.muscletalk.co.uk is number 1 IMHO

I've been there before and looked around quite a bit, but it is no where near as great as abcbodybuilding.com Their users and mods seem much more informed and have done so many scientific studies and journals on bodybuilding and anabolics that I am astounded.

Bebob, forget supps... just get on a workout program and a sound diet and you should lose the weight easily. Getting in shape is alot like Penis Enlargement, there are not shortcuts. Yes, you can take this and that to help but the bottom line is that everything starts from a sound diet and exercize program. I suggest you start there...

I pretty much agree with Rich except for two minor things. Post Workout you need ALOT of high GI carbs. I would really recommend something like Optimum Nutrition AfterMax which contains 40g protein from whey, 40g maltodextrin carbs (it's a complex carb, but digests fast, avoids the sugar crash of something like dextrose), 5g creatine, and 5g glutamine per serving. It's pretty much everything you need in a Post Workout shake.

I would also be a bit careful about consuming much besides sugars, like from gatorade, during a training session. Digestion really isn't working very well when your body is worked up in the gym.

Rich's pre-workout suggestion sounds good. Something that also works for me is a good shake of CytoSport Muscle Milk about 45-60 minutes before training. Gives me quite a bit of energy for training due to the high MCT content.
