I would get the plates from some place that sells chemistry/scientific supplies to schools and the public.
I think they would be called zinc or copper electrodes, they are 1X6. As for purity, if they are used for scientific demonstrations and teaching I would suspect some decent purity.
I also scruffed the surface of both plates with a dremel to make sure I got maximum conductivity out of the metal.
