I know ive heard it before, i just cant find a thread with it in it..

How many grams of protein can a body use per hour.. Like if i drink a whey protein shake with 50 grams after i workout am i just wasting like 20-30 grams or is it all being used..

I heard at a time like 30 grams. Approx. 1 gram for every lb. of body weight, if your consuming it multiple times through out the day spread out. Adding to much more than that probably wouldn't do to much more.

old thread but in case someone sees it and wonders, its like .6 grams per pound of body weight. Really only intense athletes (rugby, soccer, etc) need that much though, but if you have that much, you'll know that isnt the problem if you arent getting the gains you want.

Ive done a lot more research on the subject as well as studied my own experiences with protein intake. The consensus, if you can call it that, is anywhere from 1.25- 2 grams of protein per lbs of body weight (ideal body weight.) For me, I try to get at least the 1.25, and anything more than that is money... It seems the more protein you can get in you when your on a serious weight training routine the better. It can be hard to get all of the protein you need, so what I do is eat about 3 smallish solid meals a day- this usually consists of eggs in the morning, can of tuna midday, and some kind of chicken dish at dinner time. To add more protein and meals to my day (should be getting in 5-6 meals a day) I drink 2-3 protein shakes a day also. I have had/ continue to have great results from this routine.. Now go get jacked punks :)

I had many personal trainers and bodybuilders tell me that it doesn't matter if you take a 50g protein shake because it'll all be used up, because your body is always in a constant move, even when it's resting it still runs so don't worry. Your liver won't be like "ok, 15g are to be released in the next 30 mins".

No not really, there is no need to go sili, just consume a decent size portion of protein every 2-3 hours while awake and you won't go far wrong

I did consume 300 grams of protein eachday in 50g portions every 3-4 hours and right after a session. Gained 20lbs of muscle during that time [4 months with no prohormones or steroids etc], so it didnt do bad.

Now I consume 250 grams per day and in the same 50g portions but one in the morning, one 1 hour before a session and straight after a session, plus one before bedtime.

Dont go OVERBOARD as it can fuck your kidneys, but drink plenty of water and space it out ... 30g portions should suffice, I like my 50g as it WORKS FOR ME!!

Still gaining now.

Depends on how much you weigh. Your poundage=grams of protein needed daily but you may want to increase the size because a pound of muscle requires about 1.5 g of protein. Say you're 200 lb, then take 300g protein daily.

Don't forget the water...NEVER forget the water. Four grams of water for every single gram of protein is what's necessary for proper assimilation. And that's above and beyond your normal daily water intake.
That'll not only keep all yer insides, (particularly your kidneys), in proper working order but it'll keep you from pulling water from your muscles, which are 60-70% water, to supply the need.
