How can I get rid of muscle twitches?

My freakin tricep in my right arm has been twitching for the past week and it will not stop. It didnt bother me first but it has slowly wore one me. I get this sometimes when I work out but I havent worked out in a couple of months so thats not it. Im thinking a deficiency of something, maybe? I dunno Im stumped...

I've actually had the same problem as you, but not quite so often. Usually it happens to me after a workout. What I did that seemed to work was flex the muscle hard, for as long as I could and then shaking it out and just putting it through a little work. For triceps, maybe do a few close grip pushups and such. My thought on this is that the muscle twitches to bring in more blood, and by flexing and working it a bit, the blood need is fulfilled. I dunno, I'm no doctor. It seems to help for me, so give it a try.

You could try eating less sugar and adding a potassium supplement to your daily diet.
 
They both have good answers. Drink more water is another answer.

The best thing manofprin stated was to fully contract that muscle. This is called an isometric and helps to neurologically strengthen weakened muscles. Muscles that cramp or spasm are neurologically weak. These muscles DO NOT strengthen by doing concentric/eccentric exercises. Do the isometric exercise that manop mentioned.

Fully contract your tricep for 10 sec then relax for 10.
Repeat 10 times.

If this doesnt alleviate the problem then repost and I will give you some more things to do.
 
I would also go with taking potassium supplementation and drinking more water.
 
I used to get twitches as well but only after exercise. I didn't really pay much attention to it but since I started reading up on nutrition last year and started a eating healthy I can't really recall it ever happening since.

Potassium must definitely help because I eat a banana a day which must have something to do with it.
 
My tri, shoulder and bicept used to twitch at dif times when i was heavilly into the gym.

i woulod just rub in for 10 seconds, it would stop , come bak, rub it, then after an hour it would bugger off.

but water sounds smart and maybe some magnesium power (i think thats what it is) to relax the muscle.
 
Since the first post the twitches have completely stopped. It was definitely NOT normal and extremely uncomfortable. Im certain it was from lack of water at quite possibly the potassium deficiency. The water dispenser on my refrigerator went out and I have a phobia for tap water so I went a good month without drinking any water just juices. But as soon as my refrigerator was fixed what ya know twitches stopped!!!
My question is why would my right tricep be the only muscle twitching?!?!
 
it's neurlogical, of course. Remember your nerves are electro-chemical. This means you need the right electrolyte balance in your system which, of course, means you need to drink plenty of water. Potassium is important. For me, syrum calcium was my problem. Make sure you're getting all your essential vitamins and minerals. There's no telling which one is your issue. As to why it happens after workouts... it's because your body uses up the electrolytes at a faster pace than it is providing them and the electro-chemical signals don't go through properly when you don't have enough of the proper ions available.
 
these things go away when you get adequete amount of sleep. It works for me, atleast when I get an eye twitch from lack of sleep.
 
Kinda redundant, but :

Sleep, stretching, flexing/weight lifting, poatssium and water have all worked well for me for twitches and cramps. Other essential vitamins, nutrients, minerals etc may help too.

Not sure why only certain muscles twitch. I often experience single tricep and or bicep arm twitches if any. Other less common twitches are on the pecs, some more on the thighs and even less-so on the calves. Occasional twitches on the trapezius. Maybe very rare muscle twicthes elsewhere in my lifetime. Aw heck, maybe they are more common and wide-spread than I was thinking. :s lol ... Not sure why one will choose to act up at one time while the rest are fine. I'm glads though. If all the muscles were twitching then I'd be freaking out , lol .
