To make them legal, you have to restrict certain aspects of the car. Basically dumb it down so it isn't as fast (low and high).

There's a whole list of parts that will need to be modified to meet US government standards. The main things for speed performance will be the computer chip, injection, cooling and exhaust systems. But it also applies to other parts such as the horn, windshield wipers, mirrors, brakes, tires, wheel assembly, etc.. You would have to meet all of the specifications before you can legally register and drive the car in the US.

I'm not sure most police could not tell the difference though (until you sped away from them). But I wouldn't want to risk it after spending that kind of money on buying and importing the car.
