Never do clamping, it's a dangerous and outdated method. DVT (Deep Vain Trombosis) is nothing to joke about.Of course Jelq is one of the most powerful exercises. You could even do some light clamping edging and stretching for maintenance.

You can use your ok grip with your fingers (around the base) when you are doing edging, but never use a clamp for this.
Yes they may gain good on clamping and get good results. But personally I would never try it due to the big risk of DVT.Many people have deep knowledge and experience with clamping. People like the person you mentioned have so much experience. They can do fine with clamping. But I personally will not do clamping.
I've seen too many people gain from pumping and SSJ. Pumping and SSJ is the way forward.
