for a beginner hanging isn't really recommendable so I would try an extender for the beginning.
there are also manual stretches like the blue whale and also dld's SRT routine but first I would recommend the newbie routine. This is a great way just read the threads for beginners.
When I'm in the MityVac I tend to adjust until pressure's at the safe max, and then pull gently while keeping the pressure. Not sure if it does anything but maybe.
