Hi guys,

I have been pumping for a about a year now. I ran into a similar problem before but it went away fairly quickly. But this time it is worse and it doesn't seem to be getting better. I am a bit embarrassed to go to our family doctor too to explain to him i pump. I wanted to see if any pumpers have had a similar problem. I looked at most of the threads here but couldn't find anything about it.

I am sure you guys get this stretching feeling in your lower ab when you pump right? I am not sure if it's because the opening of the cylinder is pushing above the testicles or because the penis is being stretched. Either way, I usually ignored this feeling and I never had any issues. Now, about a couple of months ago (also once before several months back as i mentioned before), I started having this pain in my lower ab (towards the left -or the previous time, towards the right) when i played sports. Basically, it hurts when i run or do moves that involve my lower ab muscles (the left side). At first, I thought it was an injury from the ab exercises i had done, or from playing sports. But when it happened the second time a couple of months ago, I am now almost certain that it's from pumping. So, i don't know when it happened, but it must have happened during a pumping session, when i have pumped too hard or something, and that "pulling feeling" i get in my lower abs became a bit too much and that's when the injury happened.

Please guys, reply if you know what has happened or if you have had a similar problem. I am a bit concerned because i play a lot of sports, and i haven't been able to play for about two months now. I should also mention that I DID play soccer (competitve) a couple of times after this happened, and i think it made it worse, because it hurt like hell during and after the game.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as there doesn't seem to be much info about this on the internet, so it doesn't seem like a common injury at all.

Thanks.

if you are in pain and it doesn't seem to be getting any better after awhile go see a doctor. you dont have to tell him you pump. you can say you dont know how it happened, or that you felt pain after your soccer game.

+1 On the reply. It sounds like a hernia. I am no means a doctor or am diagnosing you but it seems to me that you may have had a pre-existing condition and the pumping aggravated it. Def. get yourself checked out. Good luck and GOD'S speed with your recovery!

Pressure on lower abs? Can't say I've felt that from pumping. Hanging downward, yes. Perhaps if you rest your pump at 9 o'clock or higher you won't have so much pull in that area. I doubt pumping could really bring on a problem like that, unless you're pumping at high pressure, which might be the case. What pressure do you pump at? Please tell me you have a gauge.

I agree with Bionic. It sounds like you may have hernias. When was the last time you had a physical and had to "turn your head and cough"? I'm a third year medical student and I want to tell you we (doctors) hear everything. Just tell your doc, he won't be weirded out that you pump. Every little piece of information helps us treat you better.

John_117 is right. Doctors need to get the full picture. Personally, I doubt that the pumping caused the problem, but it might aggravate the symptoms. I'm not a doctor, but I'm sure there must be several possible causes of lower abdominal pain, from hernias (already mentioned) sports injuries (ie. torn muscle) or even a bowel problem? If it persists you really must get it checked out.

10inchadvantage is right too: What pressure are you pumping at? If you don't know because your pump doesn't have a gauge then you really must get one. A good pump is a must for any serious pe pumping, and follow the guidelines for safe pressures. Please let us know how you get on with all this.

Thanks for all the replys. My first guess was also Hernia, but as i said, I went to my doctor and he asked me a whole bunch of questions and ruled it out (basically, i have no trouble going to the bathroom- for either one, have no bulge, no pain when coughing, etc). The pain is only felt when i sprint or do certain movements involving my lower ab muscles (e.g while stading up and having my right leg resting on a high stool in front of me - as if stretching my right hamstring- trying to move my left leg brings up the pain)

Now, i did take Ibuprofen for a couple of weeks and rested completely, and the pain is almost gone now. So i am happy, although I did play some soccer a couple of days ago and while i had no pain while playing, I did feel some pain the next day, which after taking more Ibuprofen, has now gone away.

So I guess it may have been a "minor" hernia, but since it has improved a lot by now, i don't find it necessary to see a doctor at this point, unless it comes back again. And I guess it will remain a mysery whether it was caused by pumping or was a muscle strain caused playing sports. My guess still is the first one.

As for those who asked about the pressure at which i pump, my pump does have a gauge, but it has been damaged a bit so the hand doesn't work properly (gets stuck in random spots). Either way, I will be more careful from now on, and always listen to my body while pumping, and will quit as soon as i feel any pain. Others should take note of this as well.

p.s One likely explanation could be that the damage was done when the opening of the pump pressed down too hard above my testicles. This causes a sort of similar feeling as when you get hit in the testicles, as they are connected to muscles in the lower abs. I used to feel this before but continue pumping as the same pressure. This may well be what has caused the injury.

What pressure do you pump at? Like 10inch said I hope you have a gauge. What size is your tube and girth?

As I said, I do have a gauge, but it's broken. It's stuck in the middle so it doesn't show the right pressure. I think i usually pumped at about 300-400 mmHg (or something) before the gauge broke.

My tube size is 9" x 2.5" (length x width). I usually fill up most of it after pumping for a bit (about 0.5-1" of length left at the tip and some space in the girth in the middle).

i dont think pumping caused this injury, ive been a pumper since 92 and have never had any difficulties.chances are you strained yourself somehow.....but pumping injury???i think not.

So i got assessed by my friend who is a physiotherapist, and it turns out i have a Hip Flexor Strain, which is a common injury for soccer players. It's aggrevated by sprinting and forceful kicks. So it all makes sense now. I am actually very relieved that it has not been caused by pumping as I was starting to get concerned about continuing to pump. Anyway, thanks for all your help guys.
