I was pretty dormant. I had been doing cardio fairly faithfully last March and April, then slacked off and went gung-ho again starting around the frist part of September.

The main thing is consistency. You have to keep some sort of routine up. Even if you don't go intense some days or take off for a week or so. You have to eat healthy the majority of the time and at least get out and walk a couple times a week. This way you don't backslide and start gaining fat again. I went from 21.5% body fat to 8.59% in a year. I'm currently at around 12% which isn't bad but I want to get down to 8 or lower. It's tough but slow and steady is the best way. About 8 years ago I weighed 176, I dropped to 152 in two months by working out twice a day and barely eating anything. I was a bean pole. And when I quit the working out and started eating junk I went up to 189...all fat. I am about 167 now I'm not ripped but I don't have a huge spare tire now either. My goal is to be at 8% or lower by the end of April. I can't do upper body much now because of my shoulder, but I'm doing crunches, legs a little and mainly eating better. I eat yogurt, egg whites, tuna, rice(white right now, need to switch to brown), generic slim fast drinks(cheaper-same ingredients), chicken breasts(no skin). I'll eat other things that aren't as good but I keep it to a minimum. You've probably heard it before but it is a life style. I'm not perfect by any means because I smoke. But weight loss and staying in shape have to be a lifestyle. YoYo dieting and working out makes you feel good for a little bit then as soon as you stop you feel bad again. You have to honestly want it. Good Luck.

Guys,

this might sound odd but playing badminton will make your ass nicer trust me. I have been playing badminton for a long time and have gotten quite good at it, the standard movements involve a lot of lunging. If anyone might come across some pro badminton players on TV or where ever, check out their lower body, most if not all of the women playing professional or even national level badminton have spectacular asses and thighs.

Wow, I'm not saying this to be critical of badminton, but I would have never guessed that in a million years. The obvious problem I can see is who plays it? I mean, at least in my area, it's always been known as a backyard picnic game. Are there any kind of established leagues or organization?

where abouts are you located? I know what you mean most everyone i talk to would imagine its nothing more than a backyard game but i dont blame them.

Another thing i would add is that badminton played at any level for a long period of time can be an excellent way to do cardio and still have a good time, it beats running on a treadmill for a half hour staring at your self in a mirror:p

what i would do is check out www.usabadminton.org click on where to play on the left and find a gym closest to you and just see what is available. :)

Thats one reason I always played basketball. It was the only active sport I could play at home by myself.

I found two within an hour drive, around the Pittsburgh area. I may check it out sometime and see if it looks like anything I could possibly foresee myself being any good at.

That's true. Shooting hoops is not incredibly strenuous exercise, but it's something and a hell of a lot better than watching TV. However, it was always tough to get into it, being that I'm 5'9". They need under 6' leagues for guys like me.
