What do you guys think? I know that people say that it only puts on water weight and when you stop using it you lose the muscle but it probably builds some real muscle too, right?

creatine is great. the reason you gain water weight is its exact function. it "store" water in your muscles, that is where the water weight comes from. this extra water in your muscles allows you to workout longer and harder, because with the added water, your muscles do not get tired as quickly. that is where the muscle gains come from, the working out longer and harder. i can lift a lot more when i am using creatine and lifting more weight is where the added muscle comes from. there have also been studies shown that it increases your function in school (if your in school) because it allows you to focus more. i know it keeps me awake and gives me mre energy throughout the day. i love it.

WTF!? I've used creatine once (I'll be using it again maybe next month) and I've put 2cm on my arm and it hasn't dropped so I guess it's not water as I've stopped taking it a month ago :) BTW I took aminoacids with it and "ate" a lot of calories but still I haven't lost cms so how could there be water retention? Not saying there isn't water retention - just sharing my experience :)

rewave, look at the link anony posted. it explains scientifically what i was trying to explain. creatine is designed to give you water retention. this extra water is like fuel for the muscles. creatine also aids in recovery. when using creatine you are able to get in better workouts and repair your muscles faster, that is what gives you the gains

Creatine is constructed from 3 amino acids. All it REALLY does for you is assist in ATP generation in your muscle tissue. Your body naturally has ~3-5g of creatine present but this is quickly depleted during exercise so supplementation makes up for it. This allows you to work out with greater intensity thus leading to greater muscle gains. It is as simple as that, no more and no less. It's definatly not a magic bullet.

New creatine forms such as creatine malates, Creatine-Eythyl-Ester, and Kre-Alkalyn have no water retention and still provide the aforementioned benefit (and yes, I've tried all three of those varieties myself). They also don't have the possible gastic upset issues from monohydrate, since the mono form tends to break down into creatinine (a toxic by-product). I personally suffer from nasty gastric issues with monohydrate so I stay away from it, and thusfar my favorite stand-alone creatine form is Kre-Alkalyn and my favorite creatine/volumizer product is Dymatize Xpand (Creatine malate, Creatine Ethyl-Ester, Arginine, Glutamine, Citrulline, etc -- this stuff is great).

I'm glad some others here know what they're talking about when it comes to these matters.

homeslice1325 I've read the facts about creatine but how come after I've stopped taking it a month ago I haven't lost size/weight? Quite the oposite I think I've bulked up a bit but yesterday I started a low carb diet and I'll stick to it until the summer (yep 5-6months).
