Just wanted to know, because I'm trying to start weight-lifting. I've calculated all of my costs. I'm paid 756 a month ( Low-paying, low-hour job, but hey it's good until I find something better ). I'm single as well and thinking about going back to school for either nursing, or computer stuff ( can't make up my mind, but I want to be fit while doing so ) I have to pay for my car and Insurance ( that's 380 a month ), Internet ( 34 a month ), a couple of clothes each week ( Since I'm tall, pants are expensive, but I try to find good deals ) gas ( It's random sometimes. I can half-fill up on my impala with 5 bucks, and for 10 bucks I almost get the whole tank. Don't travel as much either ). So, that leaves me with 343 dollars. Food shouldn't be that expensive. I can cook like I've always been doing and bring some to work with me.

I've been to many gyms for the last few days and the prices are expensive. Went to the YMCA and they're asking for 50 dollars a month with a downpayment of 50 dollars, but no contract. Went to one of the independent ones, the same, but you have to have a contract ( 20 to 30 a month ). Do you think I should keep looking, or wait until January, where they'll making deals out of the woodworth?

Darn it! Could someone move this to nutrition section, didn't see it. :(

Would you rather have it in the new "Financial Forum"?

Why do u need to pay for a gym? Buy some weights and go jogging, swimming, riding a bike etc and save that monthly payment?

You can find great deals on free weights on craigslist. They even give them out for free, sometimes.

P90X type work outs are great, you would need 30lb-40lb (perhaps lighter) dumb bells, and a $35 pull-up bar. If you know your way around the internet you can even download some of the workouts.

I've tried that route once, and it wasn't pretty. I'm thinking about YMCA, because they have a program for people who want to pay less and workout. It's just the gym brings that security without going through all the trouble. All I want to do is weight lift, cardio and move on.

I'd honestly suggest looking into things like body weight training. I've seen some people do some downright amazing body transformations using ''only'' their bodyweight and solid diet. Just google ''body weight training'' and you will find some great sites with good info, there are even forums dedicated to the subject. You won't get ''hyooge'' but you can definitely get very strong and ripped.

That is how I did it, diet and body exercise. Lost 140 pounds and solid muscle.

I don't go to the gym because i can't afford one. I have some dumbells and a barbell that i bought. I found some weight plates in my basement to use, but they're bukly concrete weights so i'll eventually buy some steel plates that take up less space. You can probably find some equipment on craigslist as mentioned above, or try natural body exercises. I think it would be good to have a even balance of weight training and natural body exercises. I'm not strong enough to do certaion bodyweight exercises, so i'll just do what ones i can. Hopefully i can get strong enought to eventually do stuff like this:

I'm gonna look into P90X. I have most of the equipment, but i'm gonna need some more weight plates. I might get lucky enough to download all the workouts in ISO files. (I'm too broke to buy it.)
