How tight should a cockring be?

Since I am an official newb, I don't know where to ask this question (even after looking) so...

How tight should a cockring be (behind the scrotum) to be effective but not dangerous?

I am using a stretchy plastic/rubber ring, but I have three sizes, and I am not sure which one to use. The largest one is comfortable, but I want to know if I can be safe to try the medium one, or if it could be harmful, etc. I have read that I should not wear it for more than 30 minutes, but does that include only "erect" time, or any time that I have it on before sex?

The largest ring stays on comfortably when I am flaccid, with just a very slight constriction. Would the medium ring be better or worse? I guess what I need is some advice about how to know what is best. Anyone?

Well ... tight enough that it will hold the blood in for you ...

I mean, not completely, you don't want your penis turning purple I don't think, or getting cold. I bought a 3 pack of cock rings ... I think the measurements are 1", 1.5" and 2" ... or something along those lines. I use the biggest for "Penis Enlargement" to wrap around my nads and penis, and I use the medium size one for edging and other activities.

Well this is a newbie thread so ask away.

Really I am wondering if you are using it for clamping or for sex cause the 2 have different goals in mind. If you are using it for clamping purposes I would visit the clamping section in this forum I am sure you will find the answer there sorry I can not tell you more I do not clamp.
But as for using it for sex I have been using one for many years I do not like the cock rings that come in three sizes one there is a fair difference in the sizes of each ring the second is these are designed to go behind the balls therefore you are cutting of the circulation to your nuts me personally I hate this idea. I like the ones that you put around the base of the shaft they are cheaper in general and they come so they can be adjusted to suit all sizes to the millimeter so I would get one of those and get a hard on and then use it do not put it on to cause pain or let your penis go purple but so you see your penis get a little thicker and a little more veiny and muscular looking. to get even thicker I like to kegal.

It should never be tight that it cuts off circulation, that is asking for severe trouble.

All you need is a light constriction, enough to slow down the blood from leaving the penis.
Each man will vary depending on his girth what size cock ring he uses.

Using something like a cable clamp can give you an idea as to how tight you want a potential ring to be.
By adjusting the clamp, you get to try many sizes in one device.

Once you find what suits you, simply measure the circumference of the clamp at how many clicks you had it at, and when you purchase a future cock ring, ensure that it is designed with that girth in mind.
