"ADHD"/attention problems

This isn't directly related to Penis Enlargement, but I wanted to ask a few questions / have a discussion about attention problems.

Since the beginning of my adolescence, I have suffered from ADHD-like symptoms. I'm never able to focus on anything, whether it's mundane or extremely interesting to me. There are ALWAYS a million thoughts in my head, and I can't seem to pick one of them and run with it. It takes me a long time to complete any given task, and I often find myself staring at a wall or some other object for long periods of time, just spacing out. Time slips through my fingers like sand.

In addition to concentration problems, I have an awful memory. At my university, FresHydromaxen are required to spend 2 hours per week in a Study Lab. I couldn't tell you how many of those I've missed. Also, I missed my last Calculus exam because it completely escaped my mind (and yes, I wrote it down). When friends tell me to say "Hi" to my brother/mom/other friend/whatever, I forget. I can think of countless other things I forget about all the time.

To some of you, this will sound like some kind of whining, but I'm hoping not just for empathy but also for any advice on this issue.

Before I hear your thoughts, let me tell you a few things. First of all, I have not been diagnosed for ADHD; I guess it's always been discouraged in my family to seek treatment for mental problems for fear of being prescribed strong drugs. Second, I'm not sure whether my condition is innate or if it's caused by the way I was raised. My house was always a mess and little attention has ever been given to organization and even less to discipline. If I failed a few classes, I would be told "Just work harder next time", more or less, with no real penalty. Also, I've always been told that when I was VERY young, I consistenly went to bed and awoke at exactly the same time (my emphatic decision, not my parents'), and before I went to sleep I always ensured that I had organized my toys the way I preferred. Basically, organization was king when I was a little guy.

Finally, I would prefer to avoid drugs at all costs... not only the stimulant variety, but also the SNRIs (Strattera). I am not against drugs entirely; they certainly have their place and are sometimes necessary, it's just that I would rather avoid them if at all possible.

Do you believe in alternative medicine? (eg. naturopathy)People who don't want to get onto drugs for things go for this avenue.

I do believe in alternative medicine, but I wouldn't want to try anything that I hadn't heard from other "real people" had worked for them.. y'know?

There's a lot of stuff out there that really doesn't work... but, I've used St. John's Wort before, and it definitely did work, so there's no question that nature has real medicine for us out there. So, yeah, if anyone has any sound recommendations as far as alternative medicines go, I'd be willing to give it a try.

I think you misunderstood my post. I didn't say that I had ADHD, I just said that I'm dealing with problems often associated with ADHD (a.k.a. "ADHD-like"). I don't need a doctor to tell me that I have attention problems; I can tell firsthand, just like I can tell when I'm hungry or thirsty.

If I were curious about whether or not I have "ADHD" I would certainly talk to a doctor, and maybe I will. But there's a difference between saying "I have ADHD" and saying "I can't concentrate".

There is always possibilities to have other health problems that cause that. I was diagnosed with a bunch of shit (depression, adhd, obesity etc.) for about 3 years before they figured out it was 1 thing causing everything. Till this day it still causes my short term memory loss and forgetting random shit like you say in your post. This memory loss I speak of started while I was in high school. I'm not sure but it sounds like its not really effecting anything else but your memory so I'd still have that checked out by the doctor before anything else. Have him take some blood and run some tests on ya, see if anything is abnormal. If everything comes out alright, there is always possibilities the doctor missed a test or screwed up on one etc. Maybe (not saying it is) it is just a lack of interest in the given subjects you are 'forgetting'? Anywho, good luck at the doctor and let him know before hand that you are not seeking any perscription medicine at all costs for the problem.

mike knows allot about that shit try and ask him he has OCD himself

I've got your exact same symptoms and a memory like a sieve. Was diagnosed with ADD and put on non-narcotic/stimulant called...shit...I forget, Oh yea, it was Strattera (I didn't just make up that last sentance for fun...that was my exact thought process). The Straterra kicked me up into high gear real fast - started to ramble and free-associate like crazy -- thought I was Robin Williams. Kind of liked the feeling when compared to the ADD, but it had one nasty side effect -- constipation. Ma, I wou;dn't take a crap for days and when I did, it was like giving birth to a piece of charcoal. Couldn't take it any more so I gave it up. Now I'm taking some herbal stuff (ginko biloba and some other herbs) and it seems to have helped. Not as much as the pharmaceutical grade stuff, but it helps and other body functions are normal.

Get some blood work, talk to a shrink as well - it's money well spent and it will set you on the road to recovery.

Okay okay, I guess you were probably talking about blood tests like TimBo was.. sorry... hehe... but I would like to know what you're taking aside from Ginkgo

thanks again :)

I'll review my supplements and give you a full list - Ginko, Omega Fish Oils, and several other herbal items have helped greatly. Hang in there CJ, just busy with last minute Christmas shopping but will try to post again tonight.
