Hey guys.

Most of you know the battles I had here with Nortons. Well, my subscription just ran out and I just tried to renew it and the code they sent wouldn't work. I emailed them and basically the guy told me, "To bad, I am refunding your money so you can instead buy the upgrade(more money) instead of the subscription. Everyone I have talked to has told me that the 2005 Nortons slows up your system worse than anything ever.

My question is,

Who has advice for the best Antivirus/Internet security package that DOES NOT slow your computer down to a crawl.

Also, I think I am allowed a good deal on something like this through my ISP. Anyone familar with ISP provided virus and security packages?

Thanks

Kooky

Well Norton is way better than Mcafee, and since there really arn't any virus's anymore Id say just get microsofts antispyware which is free, and you should be set.

yeah my norton ran out too, fuckin ay i tried to renew it but like you said, goddamn it's so fuckin expensive. so i'm just going to do that windows thing. FUCK NORTON

AVG free @ downloads.com
I've been using this for last 2 years no problems + it got rid of a virus that norton couldn't

avg is great and free. they do offer a pro. version that comes with a fee but comes with support as well. Also consider the free route with these things downloads.com has about everything you could want for antivirus, spyware removal, firewall, etc... if you are looking for recommendations I'm sure many of us can offer some of those up as well, or go by ratings and downloads from the site mentioned.

Thanks so far guys.

What I am looking for is an entire suit of software to take care of all
of my security needs, much like Nortons. Virus, internet security, email, the whole
9 yards. I have downloaded the free version of Zone Alarm and I really like it so far
but the free trial runs out in like two weeks.

Anyone else use Zone Alarm?

Thanks
Kooky

Norton ran slow on my 366 thinkpad laptop,my new compaq doesnot slow at allI don't even know the speed but what ever was fastest in late 2004 is what it is with 512meg of ram it flies while all the norton in running(mainly during start up)I also run the free microsoft spy ware, its the best free spy ware i have used.I bought the new program for 2005,I think it has everything and it cost like 60 bucks for a year.

I downloaded and installed the trial version of the Zonelabs security suit and haven't had any problems with it at all. I think I will buy it when the 2 week trial time runs out.
There is a Heuristic and Byte-level virus scanning so I think that is pretty good at really digging in and finding all the bad guys

Zonelabs ZoneAlarm Security Suite is the BEST for me that I've ever used.
Has AV, Email protection, sends attacks to MyNetwatcHydromaxen if you want to look into, many settings and has IM settings....tons and tons.
Its a firewall and AV in one.
Version 5 is the current one, if you cant afford it than download bitcomet [search googe] install and launch it and see the side panel to the left, links to torrrent sites and torrent reactor is great. Look for zonealarm their and get the latest version, serials are also around.
Its exellent, and I can advise you on what setting to use with zonealarm for you PC.

Thanks Red. I broke down today and got the Zone Alarm Security Suite. The whole package. Great software. I am having a "good" time fine tuning it to what I want but I def think that overall it is a superior product to Norton's and doesn't near about slow my system down or hog resources like Norton does. So, you have "converted" me now Red.

FUCK NORTON'S!!!!!!!!!!

yeah, if you need help on the setting PM me and I will tell you what to do.

OK...I am only really having one setting problem and that has to do with the
webcamnow.com webpage. Every time I try to log onto there and chat, it says, "Bloacked by ZA" or something like that. I have played with all the pop up settings and I still can't figure it out.

Thanks

Go into Privacy tab to the left of the Zone Alarm GUI > you will than come to a screen, with 'main' 'site list' and 'cache cleaner', so click the site list and find the site you are having issues with in their and makesure instead of red crosses they are green ticks, this should solve the problem.
If not than hollar me back.
