Anyone see UFC 52?

I only saw a few fights because I didnt set the VCR lastnight.
Anyways, I saw Patrick Cote fight, and that was exellent.
Hughes VS Trigg, that was superb.
The Courture VS Liddell fight...WOW Liddell has finished a legend off....its over for Randy now IMHO.
Liddell is my fav fighter alongwith Courture, Liddell looks superb.
I didnt see the other fights.

That Couture-Lidell fight definitely surprised me, Mayhem vs. St. Pierre was pretty damn exciting too. I would have to disagree about Randy being done now, I say they need to fight one last time to break the tie. Randy was probably a little over confident, and Lidell had figured out his gameplan. It seemed like they had eachother figured out in their two fights respectively. If what Lidell said after fighting Tito was true about finally being 100% after a long time then he definitely needs to rematch Quinton Jackson in Pride before he's rocking the tip top IMO. I still believe Randy is the best choice for the UFC to beat Pride's Wandy Silva. I also think Couture could definitely beat Lidell again should they have a rubber match.

I walked in at a guys house with "free programming" ;) at the right time, saw courture and liddell go at it, that was sweet.....

Yea, it was pretty good. Trigg vs Hughes was the best. Liddel needs to stop thumbing people in the eye. I dont think Silva has good thumb defense, so Lidel will probably beat him. BigJoe seems to know a good bit about MMA so he'll prob be pissed at me for that statement. The Pride GP saturday is gonna blow UFC52 away

I'll have to watch it again in a few weeks when its repeated here in the UK, the fights I missed etc.
This pride event, well sadly here in the UK we dont get it on TV so I might have to buy the DVD.
Seen some Pride at a freinds house, and its deffo on par with UFC.
Super Brawl should be having its main shows about now, the hawai event.
Did Lee Murray fight at UFC52?

damit i missed it my boy was sposed to have it but his satellite blew who won the lindell fight and how.

I like both Chuck and Randy, but I was rooting for Randy. You have to love a guy that can show the heart and determination that he does at age 41. But to stand up and beat Liddell in a striking match is a tall order and to stand with him twice and walk away with a win is that much more difficult. Randy might have had a poor gameplan, but it's hard to say. The fight only lasted a couple of minutes, so I really can't criticize him for not shooting for a takedown at that point. Anyhow, Chuck is a very worthy and deserving champion.

Hughes and Trigg was another awesome fight. I thought Trigg had his revenge until I saw Hughes slam him and I was again in awe of Matt Hughes.

I went to Vegas this past Saturday and boy although I had the cheapest seats on the house, these fights are amazing! What a shame Randy lost, I was rooting for him and within like 2 minutes and some was knocked out. I was like "WTF"?

I don't doubt Liddell could beat Silva, especially with the momentum he seems to have right now, I would just personally like to see him avenge his loss to Rampage Jackson before taking on the Axe Murderer. I was rooting for him in their first fight. It's just that Randy has been on top for some time, and expressed interest in fighting Silva. I think people that don't train don't quite realize how easy it is to lose in this kind of fighting, Randy just got a wake up call about needing to be more of the thinking type of fighter that got him to where he is and not get too over-confident/zealous. Not saying you don't train 'cause I don't know, and I actually agree that Liddell could beat Silva, in fact I think anyone at that calibur has a shot at anyone else in their division just given the nature of the sport. Hopefully Randy will at least reclaim his title before retiring, if not have a matchup against Silva, that would be damn epic.

If Lee Murray did fight at UFC 52 it would have been in a prelim match, but I'm pretty sure he didn't. I haven't really heard anything from him since his loss to Anderson Silva, which is a shame because I love watching him fight, he brings alot of excitement into the ring, and I like the story about him knocking out Tito in that street fight. He's definitely one bad Brit.

Awesome man! I was rooting for Randy too, but like I said it's a lot to ask to beat Chuck twice at his stand-up game.

I'll be in Atlantic City on June 4th. I too have the cheapest level seats, because I really couldn't justify any of the high-priced tickets. I do hope to make it to Vegas sometime, as the best fights seem to go to Vegas.

The only Silva fight I've seen is the UFC where Vitor Belfort knocked him out within the first minute, but from everything I've heard he's developed into a real badass.

Hughes vs. Trigg fight was one of the best fights i've seen in a while...

Not taking anything away from Liddel, but i think the thumb in Couture's eye is what won him the fight. Couture has to be one of the baddest bros in MMA. Not only is he older than evereyone else, but he typically beats his opponents at their own game. If they are puncher, he out punches them and if they're grappler, he out grapples them. He was the first guy to beat Belfort by knocking him out after Belfort was knocking out everyone he fought including Tank Abbot. He beat Tito by being better at ground & pound, and he beat Rizzo and Liddel (both knockout punchers) by out punching them and knnockinng them out. Granted Couture's strategy of beating opponents is not the smartest, but he has proven time and again that he is well rounded and can fight anyone at their game. As for Couture being finished off... no way. Remember he has won the heavyweight title twice and the light heavyweight title once at an age when everyone in the fight game has been long retired. He's fought bigger and badder opponents than Liddel, i think it will be a different fight the next time they meet if Liddel can keep his thumb out of Couture's eye.

I also think that Couture has a better chance of beating Silva than Liddel... if nothing else, it would be more exciting to see Couture/Silva go at it to find out who the greatest grappler in the world is. I personoally think that if Couture took the fight to the ground as Silva would against Liddel, the outcome would have been different. Liddel wouldn't stand a chance.

Whoa sikdogg! I alway knew you were cool and I'll buy you a beer if I ever make to to SoCal again, but I had no idea you were a MMA fan as well. I agree with most everything you said, but Randy still lost and has little to blame on anyone else. As I said, to beat Chuck at stand-up twice is a huge feat and no one made Randy stand. It just seems as if some of these guys have something to prove in this area. Randy wanted to prove he could beat Chuck at striking and it burned him this time.

Tito Ortiz may have made more of a fight with Chuck too, had he played his natural game instead of "proving" he could stand with Chuck. I don't understand the mentality. You and I can stand with Chuck, it's just a matter of for how long. Chuck would probably knock me out within 10 seconds. Tito managed a couple of minutes. So what? He still ended up with his ass kicked.

As for Randy and the eye, several seconds before Chuck nailed Randy with the knockout shot I noticed Randy looked disoriented and I knew he was in trouble. I really thought it looked more like he was stunned than he had vision problems. Either way, I knew he was getting knocked out.

I've been a huge fan of the UFC since the first one. I think i've seen just about all of them too.

Yea as i mentioned, Randy has this thing about fighting is opponents at their game. It's worked for him in the past, just not this time. Watching the fight i was for Randy but i really didn't feel good about how the fight was going. I didn't think Randy was going to win but i didn't think he would get knocked out either. This was a first for him so in that sense, i gotta give props to Liddel for knocking Randy out.

I just don't understand anyone of Randy's caliber fighting Liddel on his feet. With his ground & pound expertise, Liddel would have been relatively easy to beat on the ground. Maybe next time...

Tito Ortiz may have made more of a fight with Chuck too, had he played his natural game instead of "proving" he could stand with Chuck. I don't understand the mentality. In Tito's case, he just isn't as good as he thinks he is... he never was. Most of the guys he beat were has beens or guys that just weren't that strong. He got rocked a couple of times when he fought that old has been Ken Shamrock (who's a legend in his own mind) and was barely able to hold his own aginst Shamrock standing. What made him think he could stand against Liddel. I'm not a huge Liddel fan, but i gotta say that Liddel gets things done. I guy like Tito will never be able to take the title away from Liddel or Couture until he develops more depth in this fighting repertoire.

Yea that's true but you never know how it turns out in the end... i thought that Hughes was gonna be suBathmateitted by Trigg but was able to turn it around and suBathmateitted Trigg almost exactly like the first fight. I've been in the fight game for a long time and have gotten my eyes poked and gotten kicked in the nutsack more than once, and let me tell you getting kicked in the sack doesn't affect you nearly as bad as a poke in the eye. Getting a thumb in you eye is tough to overcome cuz your eye will water for at least the next 10 minutes and until it stops, you're not gonna be able to see much on that side.

Just a genral rant about MMA, so bare with me.
I hope some UK fighters get into the UFC soon, not many of the best UK fighters are there yet.
Ultimate combat has alot of UK fighters.
Also I would love to see Rizzo VS Trillagman [not sure on spelling] for the third time, there last two fights were brilliant.
Silva.....well hes a good fighter, I seen him fight in Brazil Vale Tudo and hes really good, although I rank other Brazzilian fighters above him, hes still very good at MMA.
Alot of better Brazzlilan fighter comming up, you guys MUST see Vale Tudo, its better in many ways than the UFC...I have alot of the videos, just superb action.
I also got a few K1 videos, which is Boxing, Kick boxing, Muai Thai....really good, very heavily controlled so the guys whom love just smash smash wont like it.
Its really good technical desciplined fighting, and man it can get nasty.
Anyone seen Shooto? the Japanese version of UFC I suppose!
Its also good, but again none of these events are actually the same, they all have there own goodness, like UFC is more mainstream now and more hype and ground and pound....thats why I love it.
I also love other MMA events, but for other reasons.
Finally, on this Liddell VS Courture fight and the thumb in the eye lol
Hey guys, I have fought in this type of art..I've done underground NHB here in the UK some years ago and trust me sometimes it happens, a thumb can get in there....sometimes you might do it because the guy cant defend well against such strikes, but thats being a dirty fucker and Liddell IMHO isnt a dirty bastard.
I reckon it was a accident, just like Belfort VS Courture that time...watch the reply real slow...no way that was deliberate, he went for the KO and it grazed his eye.
I love Courture, hes my fav fighter....but I think his days are numbered, I hope I'm wrong but I just feel its near the end of a legend.

Ken Shamrock has a tremendous history and was a great fighter in years past with the Japanese circuit I believe. If he was 15 years younger, I think you'd see much better things from Ken. But the reality is he was relatively old in the early UFC events to the point where he has never been able to catch up with the young pups that grew up watching the UFC and like events, which caused them to cross-train in various disciplines. I have great respect for Ken, but when it's time to acknowledge it's over a man needs to do just that.

Tito was a great fighter in years past, but I think the talent pool has become far too big and he is an average fighter at best. Everyone loses in the UFC these days. You cannot fight 10 or 15 fights and go undefeated, IMHO. Anyone that think Royce wouldn't have lost some fights had he kept in the UFC (which is why I suspect he hasn't fought in many, many years in the UFC) is not really looking at the talent pool. Beside, BJJ has been somewhat exposed by this point and many people have figured out how to fight and prosper opposing that style. Guys like Tim Sylvia, Robbie Lawler, and Matt Hughes have tremendous starts in the UFC and then suffer that upset. It's like the New England Patriots, in that they clearly dominate but the reality is they're going to lose here and there with that talent level these days.
