I really gotta get rid of this beer gut. Even if my dick didn't grow, it'd look twice as big if I was back to my usual skinny self haha. I was thinking though, I'm working 9 hour days, drive an hour each day, then make something to eat and get ready for the next day. That leaves 4 hours to lift weights and do pe. How do you guys manage your time?

There are a number of ways....

I started easy, I kept my workouts under 30 minutes and just three days a week.
This worked great, down the road I have upped things but it only happened because I started easy.

You can also do kettlebells for 20 min three days a week if core is your main goal.
Also check out Stillwantmore’s threads (hopefully he will chime in also).

Yea a little something is better than nothing, but I'm going to need to get up to an hour of hard work to get this big ass beer belly off. I swear to God I'm shaped like the Grinch now ?

LMFAO on the Grinch visual.

There are so many different ways to do this, go super old school and go all Joe Weider but this is more of a full body routine with waist size coming down do to much greater calorie burn.

I honestly think you could never go over 30 minutes (and for the first six weeks stay at 20 min and develop a great habit) and have a sick kettlebell routine that will super improve cardio, burn large amounts of calories (way more then running or treadmills), and focus on your core.

Once you get the core improvement then moving to a full body workout could be next but that would be a decision down the road.

D$, you have this.
It is way more doable then you may be thinking and you will be geeked about it within a month.

Hey Dmoney,

If your goal is to cut fat rather than gain muscle, you probably don't need to set aside workout time to do it. It would help, it would speed the process up, and you should definitely stay active for other reasons, but most people can control body composition just by controlling diet. I have no idea what your diet is like, but if you need to reduce calories then you might actually SAVE time while cutting weight!

In fact, if time is a big thing for you then you might look into something called "Intermittent Fasting." It's worked very well for a lot of people AND as a lifestyle it's a big time saver. Your body might not respond like others, as with any diet, but if it works for you I think it's exactly what you're looking for.

Are used to own a gym and believe it or not I was a massive dude! Wish I had pictures. Bodybuilding is great but it takes the same type of commitment that PE teachers. I hope someday to get back in the gym just to get myself in decent shape as I’m getting older.

For the average busy Joe/Jane, there's not so much a priority to exercise for body fat loss. It's mostly about controlling what you stuff in your face. You're in complete control of that every day. I've gone from a 34 inch waist, "love handles" and no abs down to a 29 inch waist, no love handles and my abs looking better than when I was 19 and in the Marines just in the last several months. I'm 40 now.
No exercise (yet). Just dropping most refined foods, sugars, most bread, and actually knowing my calorie count most days. I don't usually drink alcohol. If I want a "good time" I take some kratom. No excess calories I don't need, or negative side effects.
I do intend to get back into an exercise routine this year based around body weight training, kettle bells, dumb bells and such.

The way my bills are split, my roommate buys the food and it's all trash. Plus my beer consumption doesn't help, but most of all I need to get stronger and bigger. Going on a strict diet like that is gonna kill me haha.
I use kratom too BTW. Helped me get off fentanyl and deal with daily pain.

I need both. Fatty beer gut had to go, but so do my twig legs and arms. It's hard to do leg workouts from where I got shot but I know I can do it. And yea I've heard of intermittent fasting. I only eat once for twice in the day as it is. I picked that up because I wanted to ordain as a Buddhist monk.

Too bad you didn't live close. I need a gym buddy to force me to get my ass in there and lift.

Okay, so you want to do two things: burn fat AND build muscle. Diet is still your #1 first thing to knock out of the park. I'm going to talk to you about diet and exercise both.

DIET

The way my bills are split, my roommate buys the food and it's all trash. Plus my beer consumption doesn't help...
This needs to end. The diet aspect isn't just sufficient for losing weight, it's necessary. Not only that, it's necessary for building muscle as well. Every time you drink beer, you're drinking that instead of water/protein shake/milk etc. Every time you eat junk food, you're eating that instead of veggies. Garbage in = garbage out.

Allow me to hammer this point home: if the calories you take in are low quality, then it doesn't matter if you keep the calories down, intermittently fast, and hit the gym every day. You will not build muscle, and you will not burn fat. You need to end the arrangement with your roommate YESTERDAY.

And this stuff doesn't just make it harder to reach your goals. You're not just losing opportunities to eat and drink the things you really need to get what you want. You're paying for the privilege!!

For instance, I like Blue Moon. If I drink less than 1 bottle a day, I could get by on a 6 pack each week. Let's say I find a great deal somewhere and I can get that for $7. That's $7 each week for beer. At the end of that year, I'm out $364. Instead of spending that $364 hurting myself, I could have saved it and bought some fitness equipment. $364 will get me a set of Power Blocks up to 50lbs each with cash to spare! I could invest in resistance bands, higher quality food, whatever! I could get a Phallosan! And all of this is a very conservative estimate. Do the math for yourself and see how much you're spending to make your life harder!

EXERCISE

Have you ever worked out before? An underlying assumption that I want to challenge is this 'lifting weights' bit. Depending on where you're at with your muscle development, as well as your specific goals, you may not need that now or ever. Calisthenics can get you GREAT results, while saving time and money.

Speaking of specific goals, what are yours? Do you want to be big like a bodybuilder, or would big like a gymnast be fine? (You want to be Arnold or Bruce Lee?) More specific than that would be even better. (E.g. I want to be able to do 20 pullups, or I want to be 180lbs at 8% body fat).

I'm about 160 lbs, but my body fat is very low, so I look plenty muscular despite my smaller size. More of a Bruce Lee than a Schwarzenegger. If you want to get bodybuilder big, then weights are definitely in your future (though even then you probably won't need them to start out). If you just want to look cut and fantastic, though, you can do that purely with calisthenics. That saves you time and money. All you need is a doorway pullup-bar. $20. Work out from home.

I can give more specific advice and point you towards some good resources with more info.

It's hard to do leg workouts from where I got shot but I know I can do it.
You mean you've been shot in the leg and have an injury still?? If so, you need to talk to a doctor and a personal trainer who can review the specifics of your situation and give you advice. Don't gamble with your body!

Here are your IMMEDIATE action steps:

  1. Room mate does not control your diet. Make a new arrangement.
  2. Reduce or (preferably) eliminate alcohol. Water is your friend. This will also help keep your EQ top notch. ;)
  3. Let me know about your specific goals and history.
EDIT: Also StillWant is on to something here. We have a forum just for bodybuilding, and this thread should proooooooobably be there. :D

Awesome advice! There's a lot of misinformation in society about this sort of stuff and all it does is perpetuate the misinformation. Often, lining the pockets of people selling you more misinformation. The next secret for this or that problem in your life. I feel from my own experience, most guys would be best served learning to eat properly and the basics about physical fitness. Unless a guy is genuinely wanting to pursue a career in bodybuilding, it's a waste of time and resources for most. It's also a LOT MORE work and time eating than most realize it is once you do start to pack on more muscle. Life literally becomes being completely focused about your next workout, your next personal record on whatever "lift", your next meal, how much of this or that macronutrient and on and on.

It's much simpler and satisfying to me at least, to know I'm reversing poor decisions I've made with how I used to treat my body in the past. I'm also likely saving myself from diseases that many people consider "normal" parts of aging, thousands in future medical expenses I won't have, etc. I see so many people daily in my line of work at my current job who are often quite younger than me and look just horrible for their age.

Alright, off the pedestal.

Thanks SWM, I didn’t want it to look like I was talking to myself... in public.
Lol

Holy crap. THIS! Yes, beware the fitness industry. It is the Mos Eisley of all industries. "Get ripped in 5 minutes a day! Only 10 payments of $99.99!" Bullshit and bullshit.

StillWant bring up another excellent point about the time requirements. If you are thinking of trying to get really big, the eating and sleeping aspect will be the really limiting factor... Everybody thinks about the workouts, but the eating regimen is the craziest. That takes dedication. We're talking 7,000 - 9,000 carefully planned and scheduled calories every day for the freak pros. I once had dreams of getting 'big,' and set myself a modest goal of 3,000 calories per day. AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!! :D Fine I'll just stay cut and pretend online that I look anything like Bruce Lee. ;) (My kingdom for those lats!)

Suffice it to say, the fasting will be fine if you just want to get shredded, but you'll have to abandon it and start planning your day around eating if you want to get really big. The ladies tend to prefer "ripped" to "swole" anyway, so that's definitely the best bang for your buck.

Don't be modest, Still... first and foremost you're looking fantastic these days! Not only that, but working out is a great way to preserve fluid intelligence as you age.

Same here. I just need a buddy! I have no friends but online

That would be awesome if I had a friend nearby to help me. I have no friends out here but then again I don’t really leave my house except if I have to. It be so cool to have a workout buddy to keep me accountable. Someone who will bang on the door in the morning and say get your ass out of bed! ❤️

Lmao I'm a hermit too. Funny cause I stayed in the streets all day then partied all night up until I was like 23. Then I just said fuck going out into society lol. I've got like 4 good friends that I see occasionally, but my dog is who usually keeps me company
