OK, a few days ago someone started a thread in the routines section. The Cliff's Notes version is that his goals were to get a bigger penis, bigger muscles, and a deeper voice. He hasn't been back, but I wanted to start a thread here about voice deepening.

I hate my voice. It's too high, and I think I sound effeminate or gay. I cringe when I hear an audio recording of myself, and am very embarrassed. If there really is a way to change your voice, then I am willing to commit to training myself to achieve my goal.

Has anyone heard of this, or maybe even tried it? I've done a little research on the internet, and there's a guy named Rudy Haynes selling a system. I found a free version of his ebook on the pirate bay:
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6116760/Deep_voice_mastery

To be honest, there's not much to it. You basically strengthen your neck muscles, then practice trying to say things in a deeper voice. I really want this to be legit, so that's why I'm asking for you guys' opinion on this.

Sounds interesting but as well how you feel and your posture affect your voice. I have heard exercises like this you have linked will help change the voice. The Queen of Great Britain doesn't naturally talk like she does, it has been taught to her from an early age how to speak like that.

That's a good point about posture. I know mine is terrible. I should work on improving that for its own sake, and expecially if it will deepen my voice.

Relaxation is VERY important. Stress- even if you don't consciously recognize it as such- causes your entire voicebox to constrict thus raising the pitch of your voice.
To deepen your voice you literally need to deepen your voice.
This may sound strange, but give it a shot.

Start off with whatever relaxation techniques work best for ya, and when you're cool as Miles Davis just speak the five vowels in as slow and deep voice as you can.

Channel James Earl Jones.

And as you go from A to U "feel" where your voice originates from.
Relax, breathe slowly and just let the sounds come out naturally.

You should relax your neck AND throat muscles, breathe in through the nose and speak out through your chest. Your aim is to bring the point of origin of your voice actually lower in your body:
from, perhaps, the back of your nose, down to your throat, eventually into your chest and then using your lungs and entire ribcage as a resonating chamber.

Just like Penis Enlargement, take your time. This is especially one area where rushing and stress will produce immediate negative results.

Remember:

Relax

Breathe in sloooooow
&

A

E

I

O

U

First time I heard James Earl Jones when I was younger I thought he had a cool-ass voice, so I worked on mine. I haven't measured in a looong time but I could hit 100 decibels at six feet and I can get my voice low enough to rumble yer guts from across the room.

Your ex military as well. I knew a guy from South Africa who was a drill sergeant in the South African army. Cool guy, down to earth and mostly softly spoken but he demonstrated to me outside in the yard how powerful his voice was. I think I understand Max what you mean about rumbling someone's guts across the yard because this guy could bark loud, so loud that it seemed windows could crack and he wasn't even trying!

This thread is good subject. I myself have wanted to change my voice slightly, nothing wrong with wanting to modify tone.

That's so cool, Max. I think when I decide to do this, I need to record myself every day and listen to it so I can hear how I really sound and gauge my progress.

Dude I m gay and my voice is not high so ur comment is offensive!
Same old stereotypical BS.

Gotta go ahead and disagree with you here dickleaker. He was obviously not trying to insult gays and there is no question that a good half or more of gays are indeed effeminate, ie your "flaming gays" and I've known and still know many and they are PROUD of the fact that they have feminine qualities so frankly I'd say YOU are the one being offensive to gays, not the original poster! Straight men usually want to be manly-or at least not "girly". And effeminate gays LIKE being effeminate; they take pride in it. They too would be concerned if their voices were too deep, or anything else they think that would make them less attractive to the type of men they wish to attract. Perhaps you are more butch, but there's still no reason other than unnecessary red flagging (ie enjoying playing a martyr) for you to be offended by that remark.

I'd hold off your attacks for the real folks that are offensive and damaging to the gay culture-CHRISTIANS!!!! You know, those guys that say you're an abomination and that you'll burn in hell and you're unnatural and it's a choice and blah blah bullshit blah.... those are the guys trying and succeeding at offending all humanity-those are the ones you should have a beef with. Not some guy that just wants to sound like a straight man or a more masculine man. And again-this offense is completely silly-I really seriously doubt the average person would say "most gays are manly", no they would say "most gays are effeminate". And there's nothing wrong with being effeminate objectively, by itself-just like there's nothing wrong with a 6" x 5" cock.... but I don't want to be average, I want to be "huge"!!!! And this guy doesn't want to sound anything that might make some girls think he might be gay-so leave him be, it's really not about you!

Wow. If you close your eyes when the guy with the deep voice, the guy with the high voice, and the laughing guy are all going at once, it sounds like the soundtrack to the scariest adult entertainment ever.

Apparently this whole thing is a comedy sketch and not real-wow, really had me fooled, I thought it was real for sure. Now I feel better about laughing my ass off at it lol.

That video kinda reminds me of the time this little Lt. tried to dress me down.
He was about 5'6 and about 160 lbs and about as threatening as a knot in my shoelace.

The angrier he got, the less I paid attention and the less I paid attention the higher and shriller his voice got and that got me to laughing and that got him angrier and that sounded funnier....and on, and on, and on...

Until I finally had to tell him to shut up, 'cuz if he kept going the way he was only dogs could hear him.
I don't think he ever forgave me.

Crazy Doc,
Where does that number come from ...half of gays are effeminate?
Most of my gay friends are not .Most of the gay men at my gym are not .Some of my straight male friends are .Having a high voice doesnt qualify your sexuality is what I m saying-attraction to same sex means ur gay and thats where it ends IMO.If people's opinions is that "most gay people are effeminate "I think its because the ones that are, seem to stand out from everyone else who may fit into society's definition of masculinity.Doesnt mean that most gays are effeminate ,it shows that effinimate gays get most of the attention because they differ from the norm.
The gay men I know also want to be manly, masculine and not girly so my experience doesn t agree with ur opinion.

As far as the Christians ur talking about I agree with u ...I am lucky to live in a country where that type of thinking is very small.

All I'm going to say this sub-topic related to gayness here is that one of Britain's most feared Gangstas in the past was gay! Ronnie Kray and yet he was not girls at all :) This guy would slit your throat if you got on his bad side and ruled the East end of London with fear along-with his twin. See Kray Twins. My point is its all stereotypes like male hairdressers, flight attendants, carers and nurses are all gay right? wrong.

Well... Perhaps I'm wrong, but I have been around the rainbow culture a lot so my claim is based on experience as well (only of a plutonic nature however). I would also suggest this: Is it also not possible that gays in this uptight culture also tend to hide themselves-and behave as society suggests they should and thus perhaps mask their "gayness" even on the subconscious level. How many of us know the gay man that was married 20 years and finally came out... and his behaviors did indeed change, and those changes did indeed lean toward the effeminate. There are also plenty of manly gays... I would for example call Freddy Mercury a "manly gay" (although he was pushing it at times lol) or Rock Hudson eh? Some say John Wayne dressed up as a woman frequently-so who knows, maybe The Duke was gay too-now that would be a blow to many folks lol.

I don't think being gay makes you less of a man, perhaps it just puts you more in touch with men lol. Either way, I wasn't trying to throw around assumptive statistics (as my point), I was simply saying that the nature of the original poster's point was clear and it wasn't about you and there really was no reason to be offended.

However... to play devil's advocate against myself-I would also suggest that those not in a "protected class" may have little understanding of what is offensive to that class.

The saying "The emptiest barrel makes the loudest noise" comes to mind.

Also, I would point out that anyone who quotes weight or size as an indication of fighting skills must not have much knowledge of fighting. Over 90% of fights end on the ground, which means grappling. And on the ground, weight is quite irrelevant-so is size, there are benefits to both long and short legs in grappling; the moves are just different. I've been in many fights and gotta say, some of the biggest pussies were the biggest guys... I figure perhaps few had ever challenged them so they never really got any fighting experience or something. And on the other side... I've had my ass whipped by little tiny guys, real scrappers who just wouldn't quit.

just fyi there is also voice/tone deepening surgery. I would like to speak with a deeper voice and know that I can, as I can sing with a deep voice just talking is not as deep as I would like. The voice coach thing might work out tho. Yeah there is surgery as a last resort if all else fails. I won't do it tho seem kinda intrusive, plus seems like a lot of pain for little gain for me, if my voice was so high that girls didn't like me cause of it then id think about it. I agree tho deeper voice is a good thing..

Smoking a shitload of cigarettes and drinking whiskey has worked for numerous people including: Axl Rose, Marianne Faithful, Mick Jagger, Dee Snider, Lars Ulrich, the list is quite endless... so there ARE cheap solutions folks.

Sweet, I'm really into MMA myself. Been doing jiu jitsu informally with some of my friends who are trying to become professional MMA fighters.

Any way, I haven't gotten started yet. I'm still researching and collecting information. I'm thinking that if this is going to require me to practice voice exercises throughout the day, I might need to wait a month or so when I move so I don't have to deal with my roommates.

I gotcha, but actually volume would be counterproductive. Have you ever meditated with the OM?
This is about the same vocalization.
Sing some Barry White in the shower; it's practice AND an alibi too !!

There's a ton of stuff out there on this...if I;m happy with the results of doing this, I should compile a big guide of all the information I've found.

This post is not offensive at all. I am trying to make my voice higher, I don't talk effeminate everybody tells me I am too masculine bc I am a transsexual.
