The new craze in japan...panty pulling

WTF are you talking about? Since when is using the term "jap" an insult? I just called a jap friend of mine because I was curious and he told me that he cant see how the term is offensive. Obviously this is one person, but still. If the word is not derogatory and if no one could possibly be offended by it, what is the concern?

Fine, leave it be but the next time someone calls someone else the N word don't get defensive or offended. I don't wanna hear it.

Jap is an offensive word. it's like callin a white person a "cracka" or "the man" or "pig" or "whitie"...callin a black dude a "nigger" or an hispanic guy a "spic" ...an chinese guy a "chink" or however you spell it. they're all putting down another ethnicity and making another seem superior. i don't think that was the intent of this thread by using that word, however the japanese members and those who follow their culture might be offended by it. they have a very rich culture and very distunguished as well as honorable, and to put them down by not achknowledgin them for who they are as a whole then that pisses them off

much like any other ethnicity that i named. to me that word is very simular to the N word and has no place on this forum

But how is it any different from calling someone British a Brit or someone Scottish a Scot. I don't know anyone who would find that offensive at all.

that is where you are wrong here. if we have any japanese people hear I would like to hear thier side. especially if aares called and asked his japanese friend if it was offensive and he didn't see how. and calling a black male or female a nigger or any of the above is WAY different than calling someone something short for thier country of orgin. someone jumped a little over board here and got a bit derailed from the way the term was actually used.

Kittie I can see where if we were talking about the world war here but it's not and maybe for those that served they may have some issues and use it in that fashion but I can't see it being used in that way here.

Good god. I can't believe all of this reaction over a word. How many people find the ACTION more offensive than the word? How many guys here would be pissed as hell and ready to lay a beatin' on someone if that happened to your wife/girlfriend/sister/whatever? I honestly don't care about that word or any other word when it is compared to an ACTION. In all of this talking about a WORD, there has been very little said about the ACTION. Whether those were set-ups or not, it is the intent of the ACTION that seems WAY offensive to me. And would seem to be more so to a woman.

kook

kooky I would agree. and I respect the fact you also have such great respect for women. if someone did that to my wife they honestly just asked for a severe stomping. it would be one in the same. and if I had a little girl and they did that too... well let's just say they might as well have my cell and inmate numbers picked out.

Wow loco. That is EXACTLY what I have been talking about. Forget the word(s) involved, how about getting upset about the INTENT of the ACTION. And you are exactly right 100%! Someone just asked for a severe case of ass-stomp if that was done to my wife/sister/daughter. Words don't mean crap to me when you compare them to ACTIONS like this.

You know what. Just drop it, okay. Seriously. Sorry if this got out of hand and made this thread last longer than it was originally supposed to. Just cut the crap and end this thread. Period.

Hmmm its one of those things IMHO which someone may or may not find offensive.
Jap could be interpreted as short for Japanese and the whole of that thread seems to be thinking along those lines, and briging examples such as Brit for Britain and Scot for Scotland ect.
I have to say I agree with them, I dont find it insulting and nor do I feel it would offend a Japanese person, but on the other hand if you said Japseye than yeah it would be like nigger for the Blacks...but on this occasion I myself see nothing wrong with the word Jap, but I must add that it is on a thin line of offensive content for some people, as its kinda edgeing into words such as 'jappy' 'japseye' etc etc.
Another good example and over the top in the UK is you cant say Paki for a person from Pakistan because apparently its racist which is wank, look at the word Pakistan...pakistan now look at Britain, Britain and scotland, scotland....why is brit and scot not banned? because they aint all on the whole black, and the law now does favour the other races in a white country because of the bullshit in the past...aint fair but it works thatway...so that might be why some interpret jap as offensive such as paki.

You know aares, I didn't take your use of the word "japs" as offensive, but I'm not Japanese either so I wouldn't know. But, I could see where that word could be construed as such like samzman said if it were intended to be. But I don't feel like you meant it to be derogatory. But, why in the world would you post that vid? I mean, was it intended to be funny or like a shock value thing? Do you think your japanese friend would find that vid to be offensive? I would be interested in that since I have next to no experience with modern japanese culture or modesty values. Has your friend lived there or are his parents from there and now live here?

Thanks,
kook

Wow Red....did you mean to repeat all that?
;)

I agree that it does seem borderline but I don't think there was anything
intended behind it.

kook

Yeah I agree its borderline and it doesnt offend me for one second but on the otherhand if Japanese people get fucked off with being called japs than hey its wrong.
As a police officer I deal with racial stuff all the time and I 'repeated' myself to make the penny drop that somethings shouldnt be censored such as Paki when really its short for the country of origin just like Brit for Britain.

Oh..I get it Red...I was just picking at you. And it's a good point. I visit another forum
that there are a large amount of "Brits" and they are always calling me a "yank" or "yankee" or whatever...big deal. It really doesn't bother me. But I am sure you could tell me that there are times that it is INTENDED to be offensive.

kooky

Yank is a common term for Americans here in the UK, such as some of you call us Limeys and yeah I know the tale where that came from.
It doesnt offend me, and I see that their is a team called the New York yankees so it cant be that fuckin bad if you have a team in your own country named with that word....maybe the US is too sensitive? I know we Brits get tarnished with the brush of posh lol from the yanks alot, the steriotype Brit which is oh soooo wrong you have it over the pond, come to Moss Side in Manchester and see what the REAL Britian is lol
Hey words mean nuthing, its the actions that count and I dont see much action so I dont really care with such meaningless words.
Yet again you have a point, some Amercians might get offended by yank or yankees and the same true for some British with Brits, limeys and being branded the Hugh Grant lot lol posh fuckers and silly twats like that idiot from frasiers and also that show the office...nah aint real man, kinda falls into a similer example here with words....the thinking and unconscious mind behind the words is what causes the offense, and alot of that stems from the society we live in of goody goodies.

No Red, what I meant was that IF the term "yank" WERE meant to be offensive, that you would know more about it than me. That is what I meant.

My whole reason for all of this is basically what you just said. Words mean nothing and that it is the action that counts. That offensive ACTIONS do alot more harm than just words. I learned "sticks and stones" when I was 7 or 8.

kook

well it's all a matter of perception. if you talk with a group of japanese people, and say "jap" i guarantee you that 4 out of 5 of them AT LEAST wanna kick your ass. it's seen as more than cutting the word from japanese to jap....it's an offensive term that MANY people see as wrong. i would love to see a japanese persons opinion here

I agree with that 100% samzman. I would be interested as well as I said above to read their opinion on the act as well.
