It's not a big investment (under 20 USD), so go for it. I have experience with both; sometimes I might feel a bit lazy or so and in those situations the easiness of the hand ball pump is nice. Come to the strength, I'm able to get to about the same level of force with either one.
The hand ball pump takes a little bit less space, but otherwise both are good solutions.
