If it is all legal, then you should definitley get the weapon's history checked unless your friend was the only other owner, and then register it. If you were forced to use it for personal protection in your home, they'll still nail you with a weapons charge if the gun isn't legal, and you could get creamed for that if you wound up in civil court with somebody over the shooting. Somebody is a lot more likely to score a favorable judgement if you wound or kill them with a full auto paramilitary style weapon than just a standard firearm.
Just something to consider with that type of weapon.

The 3 steps are: 900 g, 1200g, 1500g.

i think we see shit a bit different in the uk cus guns are illegal, i got caught with a tazer and got sent to jail, if i had a gun and got caught minimum 6 years and an extra year for each bullet so if i got caught with one of those id never see the outside again. if its for protection why dont you get a rotweiler?
Save up some money and move into a nicer place. A big part of health is your overall security my friend. If you feel like you need to be carrying a piece that "deadly" then you aren't feeling like you can peacefully stroll down the street anytime you want.

DLD, are you a longtime gun owner, or is this a first? If you're not a knowledgable gunowner prior to this, I would recommend a couple things. First, find someone that is a sensible person that can go to the range with you and show you some safety considerations you should know about handling the gun. Do you know anyone that target shoots, belongs to a sportsmens club, or is an NRA member? Second, realize the seriousness of it all. In ANY scenario, shooting a person is the last option you want to exercise. If you do, you are potentially putting your fate in the hands of a jury, hoping they'll believe you and your attorney over the prosecutor. It's not a good position to be in if you don't have to. Always opt for detaining suspects at gunpoint until law enforcement can make the arrest, if possible. If you do have to ever shoot, fire enough rounds to make sure you do the job, because the last thing you want to the lowest dirtbag on the planet paralyzed in a wheelchair acting as if he's the victim, cause that will carry weight against you if you end up in court.
I apologize if any of this was patronizing you with stuff you already know, but I don't know your experience and this is stuff any newbie to firearms needs to realize. If they did, we'd have less mishaps and problems. God know I don't like restricting anyone's right, but we can't deny there are power out there that have no idea what they're doing.
