Woodie,
>Thanks Bib. To your knowledge, has anyone experimented with the duration vs. weight theory pertaining to the tunica or ligs?<
I would say that everyone experiments with this. I mean, that is kind of what it is all about. You can see guys time and amount of stress in their routines, see their results, and therefore their effectiveness for the amount and type of work.
If you mean like in polls or what-have-you, there have been a million of them. In fact, there is a good one going right now.
Or, if you mean solely with hanging, the amount of time and weight, I do not think so. Maybe one poll at Thunders a couple years back. But it sounds like a good idea. If you could get enough hangers to answer.
Of course, the problem is, a new book is written almost every day with guy's routines. I mean, a guy usually continues to learn and adjust his routine, up till the time when he reaches his goals. Then, he leaves. He may not even remember what worked best, or when, or why. Tough questions.
I remember that my best gains came hanging almost all day, at 17.5-22.5 lbs, mainly BTC, with some SO. But that was because at that time, that was what I felt was the best routine for me. IOW, something a guy does may be right, but ineffective because that is not what his body needed at the time. Or somthing he does may be effective, but something else could have been MORE effective.
Anyway, I remember going through similar questions before. I got a headache then thinking about it, and feel one coming on now.
But it is interesting.
>I'm wondering if the ligs might stretch better with lighter weights over a period of time, or perhaps they need more trauma to make the micro tears? Same with the tunica.<
With any set of tissues, it requires a certain amount of weight to begin the deformation process. There is a failure line for any of the tissues. Until that amount of weight is reached, there will be no deformation. I think the tunica is generally made of slightly tougher stuff than the ligs. But I am sure there are differences between guys.
Couple things we know for sure. 0 weight for 0 time equals 0 gains. Too much weight for too much time equals injury. Other than that, it is wide open. Most guys seem to start gaining at about 5-7.5-10 lbs. Some require as much as 25 before they start gaining. One guy I know of is at 25, and has not gained yet, to my knowledge.
Sorry for the rambling.
