My Captn's Wench, ghetto weights, and pic of me hanging

First let me say I LOVE hanging. And I love the Captn's Wench! It's a fabtastic hanger. You can make it very easily in about 10 minutes or less, and it's very comfortable, plus it's cheap so if you're not sure if you want to stick with hanging (like I was) then it's a good way to try it out and not drop a lot of money on a Bib.

But I still plan on getting a Bib eventually.

The 2" wide velcro I got at a local hardware store for $2.39 per foot (which seems a little high to me). The red nylon strap I got for 39 cents per foot, and the erasers I used for grippers were 97 cents each. I already had an S hook, but they only cost a few cents.

I don't own any weight plates and I'm super cheap so for now I'm using bottles of water. I started at 1 litre (about 2.2 lbs) and I'm up to 1.5 litres (3.3 lbs). That should work fine even if I never decide to get weight plates, since I can use gallon jugs at around 8.3 lbs each.

For underwrap I use a CVS ace bandage knockoff that I got for $2.99.

I did the exact same thing months ago when I first made my wench. I then moved up to an economy sized jug of olive oil. Good luck with the wench, I may be constructing a new wench soon.

:D

I have to keep him hydrated. He hangs lower that way.

I used to use paint cans but now I tie together five-5lb dumbells.

how are the erasers attached...do they help with grip?

They're essential. You don't have to use erasers though. Cap's original design used furniture floor grippers. I couldn't find them, so I used erasers. I attached them using velcro, a la the original instructions. It's a sticky in the Hanging Around forum.

That's awesome 9cyclops9! I'm so gonna build one of these suckers...water bottle and all! Ghetto power lol!

I wonder if sand would be heavier than water? It might be a way to get more use out of the regular 1L/1.5L water bottles. I actually live right next door to a park so I'll let you know.

Yeah sand would be heavier. The thing is, once I start putting sand or pebbles in the water I won't be sure exactly how much it weighs. I like being able to know that.

How thick are your erasers? Do you have trouble getting a cable clamp around it? I just made a new wench and split a "pink pet" eraser in half, but I am not sure if it is solid enough.

It's 1/4 inch thick, as per the instructions. I had a bit of trouble getting the clamp on the first few times I used it, but it got easier.
