Now I suppose if we go back to a white background, my yellow text will be difficult to read.

For those complaining about the new look, perhaps the contrast on your monitor is not set properly. You might want to check into that.
Another point is that in Graphic Design we like to use white letters on a dark backgrounds because the human eye will remember it seven minutes longer than black on white. That is a great tip for salespeople.
