Help with conditioning for bootcamp

For all the former grunts:

I'm planning on signing up within the next month and I want to prepare for boot now. As some of you know, I'm into bodybuilding and lift on a regular basis and was wondering if I should lay off the weights and work more on endurance and calisthenics. I'm guessing I'll prepare by doing push-ups, crunches, running, etc. But what about the weights? I know you don't really lift in boot camp, but afterwards when you get stationed are there gym's? I don't wanna lose mass and have to spend a lot of time gaining it back (thank goodness for muscle memory). But other than that, just need to know if I should continue lifting or not and is there gym's or facilities at certain stations, and basic conditioning.

Oh yeah and Penis Enlargement.. I'm guessing I'm screwed on that one!

Thanks

Hey swolejah,

First off, congratulations on your decision to join our great fighting force! I'm going to tell you right now, if you want to condition for basic training, you're going to want to work a lot on your endurance. Lots of running (and I mean LOTS, unlike civvies, Marines in basic training can train ALL day), and lots of pushups, and lots of situps. Dont lay off the weights. You will need pure power just as much as you will need endurance. Honestly though, as long as you're in decent physical shape now, you need not worry. Most of the conditioning will happen during basic training. Also, nothing can really prepare you completely for the stresses of basic (in the Marines atleast, I've heard stories of Navy bootcamp being pretty easy). You'll be getting tons of physical stress as well as Marines shouting at you, being wet, cold, and at times, miserable.

Post training, ALL bases should have atleast one gym or weight room. I was at Camp Pendleton for 7 months, and they have a very nice rec center. If your station does not have a weight room...Well...That's just sad. As for Penis Enlargement, you'll time. Not as much as a civilian, but still enough.

Hope it helps!
