Hanging or Stretching?

In my opinion hanging may be more effective because of extended pressure. But it is not the rule. And yes, you should try both to see what works better for you. Everyone is different, so if hanging works better for one, manual stretching may work better for other. If I were you I would first go with manual stretching and later if you don't gain from it or if gains stop try hanging.
 
my 2 cents would be to invest in a BIB hanger. I experimented with making home made hangers but the BIB is worth its weight in gold in my opinion. Plus the bib can withstand heavier weights where other hangers begin to fail.

10 pounds maybe, I would give it a shot but I would buy a commercial hanger after a couple of months.
